This forum has a number of fans of the artwork of Yoshitaka Amano, but there doesn't appear to be any thread devoted to him, so it seems best to create a new one about this Kickstarter campaign for a Virtual Reality museum dedicated to Amano's artwork.

Yoshitaka Amano’s VR Museum aims to bring art to people around the world by breaking down the obstacles of borders, time zones and budgets.
  • This is the biggest Amano exhibition ever, with a collection of 100 artworks spanning 7 different venues — and more to come!
  • Every piece of art was carefully remodeled and transformed into 3D!
  • Enjoy Amano’s world-class masterpieces whenever and wherever you are, through a smartphone, PC or VR headset.

We've had discussions in the past about the feasibility of adapting Amano's artwork into 3D graphics, and now an attempt is being made to do just that, albeit not for use in a game.

Interesting, this seems to a degree like a modernization of early arthouse CD titles like Alice: An Interactive Museum. This could be very interesting, and there are few better artists that could have been chosen for this.
Though some of those stretch goals seem like they'd detract from the experience.

I went to see the “Think Like Amano” exhibit years ago. It was so cool and deepened my appreciation for his artwork. I was only exposed to his Final Fantasy concept art and some Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets one-offs so seeing stuff like “1001 Nights” in large form was a real delight. You really see the full quality of his multimedia style.

Now halfway through the Kickstarter and funded at just over $100,000 so it might not even reach the stretch goal for more artwork and will almost certainly miss the $200,000 stretch goal for expanded venues. :negative:

It's kind of dull to have 3D models just to look at; if they put those characters into a video game or animated film, then it'd be much better.

It was funded at ¥19,062,835, enough to reach the $150,000 stretch goal for more artwork. :positive:
