Hi,

as the topic states I'm not quite clear on how the number of attacks per round is counted in BG2.
I dual-classed my fighter at lvl 9 to a mage. After reaching lvl 10 as a mage he regained his fighter abilities.
Now he has 5 proficiency points in katanas and one in quarterstaffs.
He has two attacks per round when wielding a katana and two when wieldind a quarterstaff.
I find this strange since he should get 1/2 attack for being specialized, 1/2 for mastery, 1/2 for high mastery and 1/2 for grand mastery.
That means he should have 3 attacks with a katana and only one with a quarterstaff.
(Or if 1/2 extra attack is always the same and you also gain attacks for better THAC0 he should still have 1/2 attack more when wielding a katana.)

Does anybody know the reason for this?

Oooh, this is a real test of my memory - I can't remember the specifics, but I'm certain you don't get an extra half-attack for each proficiency point you take. I *think* you get an extra half-attack for taking specialisation, and an extra half-attack every 7th level. I think you then get a THAC0 bonus for taking mastery and everything above that is just damage bonuses.

The Katana certainly adds up. You start with 1 attack, get an extra half for specialisation, and then get an extra half for hitting level 7. 2 attacks a turn sounds right for lv. 10

I may still be wrong, as by those figures, you should have 1 and a 1/2 attacks for the quarterstaff, not 2 - but as I said, my memory's a little foggy.

I believe Bioware toned down the higher-proficiency multiple attacks in BG2. There's a patch to revert it to the core rules on the Baldurdash site (look under Shadows of Amn Tweaks and Cheats).

Hmm, my dual-wielding warrior/mage now has 4 attacks instead of 3 but keldorn has 5/2 were he used to have 3 *g*
I think I'll stop playing around with this.
With a quarterstaff I have 3/2.

Grandmastery should give you 4/1 attacks. Nerfed, is should give you 3/1. Plus 1/1 for the offhand weapon.
