Something Wicked Games snaps up former Starfield lead quest designer Will Shen
The former Bethesda Softworks design director is now the lead content designer on Something Wicked Games' upcoming game Wyrdsong.

William "Will" Shen is a developer who worked at Bethesda Game Studios on Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and Fallout Shelter as a quest designer and writer. He was Lead Quest Designer on Starfield. He joines Something Wicked Games founder (and former Bethesda employee dating back to Fallout 3) Jeff Gardiner.

Shen explained to Game Developer in an interview that his role at Something Wicked will be to serve as a bridge between the company's narrative and design teams. At Bethesda, his work included a mix of game writing and script implementation, which isn't the most common way for game studios to structure their narrative design workflows.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Quest designer on FO3, Skyrim, FO4, Starfield...

Yeah they're not particularly known for having good quests lmao

Oblivion, as shit as it was, at least had creative quest design so if he had been part of that... but nah. Joined in Fallout 3. Which gave us such classics as a cannibal town you can convince to be "vampires" instead who only drink blood instead of eating people, or a duel between two costumed superheroes in a small post-apocalyptic town struggling for survival.

The superhero one was actually pretty funny though. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

lol, Quest Designer at Bethesda. That's like being the escargot expert at McDonalds, or the heterosexuality expert at Bioware.

He did good work on Far Harbor. (Although, at least one quest was openly lifted from a NV mod, so...)

r/Fallout frames this a little nicer. "Far Harbor lead designer Will Shen leaves Bethesda Game Studios." The normie copium is that Far Harbor was a really great story and on par with Shivering Isles. It's basically the FO4 base game story told a little more competently and mercifully lacking the Brotherhood, but it also gets an F for including the Children of Atom and that retarded puzzle section.

This guy is a nobody and cannot hold a candle to the designers of old Bethesda

When a guy like Mark Bullock has to study Wayne Barlowe to come up with Telvanni architecture, you know more creative effort had gone into random stuff in Morrowind, than the entire stories of their latter games
