Well, I know that some mad lad recreated all Tome of Battle classes within NWN2, complete with their maneuvers.

Playing NWN on a persistent world is hands down the best gaming experience I've ever had. Fuck the haters.
It played pretty much like RETARDO DIABLO without any of the sleekness that came with the original, when it comes to combat, but of course the "prestigious Codex" forgets any standard of quality when it comes to gushing over the half-assed shit they used to eat in big spoons as kids.
And it's not like we are talking about an Ultima VII type of game where the combat was a negligible part of the experience, either.

Some people remade even (a portion of?) Baldur's Gate 2 in the NWN 2 engine.
Which was always HILARIOUS to me, because it's basically like bragging that you made a perfect replica of a tasty lasagna out of boogers and then someone has to eat it.

But the point isn't combat per se - it's the world and the multiplayer aspect of it (including player-made content).

I get that you weren't interested in it (and focused on singleplayer. I had similar approach and experience as you), but it doesn't really defeat the point, considering that the whole idea of NWN (as the game) was to provide a digital platform to play an RPG with other people.

Your perspective blinds you. Such content is certainly directed to people who like(d) both NWN 2 and Baldur's Gate 2.

I'm not even questioning the allure of the social side of NWN shards. It simply doesn't change my opinion of the CORE gameplay experience, which was *abysmal*. not just compared to some abstract ideal standard, but even just to BG2.
Even just "chatting with friends" can be a blast with the right social circle, but that doesn't make IRC, Teamspeak or Discord great game experiences.

Yeah, and I'm sure scat porn is directed to people who liked both eating turds and having sex.
I'm not part of the club, though, so I don't need to advocate for it.

The whole point of playing a REMAKE of something would be that I want it to be an improvement over the original. If I have to start putting asterisks in a corner and go through the mental bargain of explain to myself why I'm setting for something worse, there's a problem.
NWN2 played worse than BG2, controlled worse, had a worse UI, worse art direction and visuals (despise being allegedly technically more advanced) and overall offered NOTHING to me that made me feel that fanmade remake was a welcomed addition to my collection.

Laughing at scat porn is weird though. I mean, I wouldn't even talk about scat porn to begin with, because de gustibus non est disputandum and the same applies to pretty much everything where preferences are involved. If someone has the time and fervour to make such a pointless remake, I am certainly not going to bash his head for it. It's not like I have to play it or it costs me anything.

I’ve found that the core gameplay experience is more fun if you weigh less than 300 pounds.

Try Hordes of the Underdark. It’s an official xpac and not community content. It’s way, way better than the OC. I’d even say it’s great!

HotU is fantastic , easily my favorite of all the NWN1 campaigns. Exploring Undermountain and then the Underdark is what D&D was made for

HotU is fantastic ,

I also loved HotU but honestly, Menzoberranzan has IMO the best depiction of underdark in a electronic adaptation. The second best is hotu, the third is ddo and BG3 has by far the worst.

I joked about barrelmancy but honestly Larian must add barrelmancer (sub)class. Just imagine the crazy stuff which they will gonna do in BG3...

I have heard mixed opinions of Menzoberranzan from those that played and appreciate these Gold Box Classics, I use to love the Underdark when I use to DM in AD&D and used books like the Dungeoneers Survival Guide to enhance and create campaigns

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeoneer's_Survival_Guide

Do you interact with different races in Menzoberranzan, like Duergar and Aboleth ? I see its well priced on Steam and looks good

Its always so interesting to remember the dates when these games were released and remember what I was doing, in 1994 South Africa had its first Democratic election in 1994 and things started changing in every way. Thats one of the reasons I had a break from gaming until 2007. Now I am in a position with time on my hands to relook at this classic games

Yes, you meet Aboleth Duergar, I don't remember. Teh aboleth launches a really nasty curse which can only be lifted a long time later, just don't expect a high level underdark adventure like in DDO or in NWN1:HotU, is much more mid level. For eg, instead of going "guns blazzing" in the underdark city you spend most of the time disguised

One of the things which I like in Menzo is that you can use fly and levitation and I wonder if BG3 will support such spells.

I know I keep saying this but I am definitely going to play all the Gold Box Classics, I see you can buy all of them combined and that includes Ravenloft, Kyrnn and Dark Sun. And its on special at the moment and going for $13, I dont think you can get better value for money for so much content and games

Grognards will look you dead in the eyes and tell you "Ah yes, now THIS is the greatest artistic depiction of the outworldly weirdness of the Underdark, not like in that lame BG3 game"

That looks sick, what game is it?
