Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
BB2 online leagues are "leagues" below those of FUMBBL for example. The oldfags over there have perfected the formula over the course of decades. There is some variety of course but often it's just slight variations on a standard sort of team composition and skill up selection. I don't see the new rules set hampering things much.

Maybe, but you still ended up with various random rolls that determined your team. Even on permanent FUMBBL leagues, you could not guarantee much beyond a few doubles, and it could be hard to resist rare stat increase even if they didn't really match your plan. I loved how the former rules had randomness without making builds too random. I reserve judgement for the new ones, but given the state of the game, I won't try it until the Legendary Chaotic edition relaunch in 2 years.

True, but coach as player has always been confusing.

Community Update: Adressing the main topics of discussion
In this new we will try to give you an update on the main topic without avoiding anything.

Dear Coaches,

Blood Bowl 3 has now been out for everyone for 24 hours.

Let me start by thanking you for your support and for playing our game. We have had an overwhelming amount of players since the Early Unlock and despite the issues, that is something we are very grateful for.

The game’s release has had its problems and it seems important for us to address some of those main topics of discussion :

  • The Monetisation
  • The Brutal Edition
  • The game state
  • The server Issues
  • The Faction Leaks
  • The Blood Bowl team

We’d like to start with where the game is at launch and what players can expect from us as we move forward. We know there are some features missing that players expect, being able to reconnect in a game for example, and we are working hard to get those features added.

The functionality of the game is our main priority and rest assured we will do our best to address any bugs or broken elements as soon as we can.

We hope that Blood Bowl 3 will be a game that is ever-evolving. Even the end of the roadmap is not the end of the road. We will continuously add content and events. We have big plans and ambitions for Blood Bowl 3 and these initial stumbling blocks don’t change that.

Next, we’d like to talk about monetization and appreciate this is a sensitive topic among the community. This is something we tried to communicate ahead of the launch, but we intend to implement features allowing players to be rewarded either with cosmetic items or Warpstone through play as well as purchase.

We know that we will probably not be able to convince all of you but we truly believe that our system is fair, rewarding and optional and that’s understandable.

Let’s be concrete. Here are the details of what you will be able to unlock for free through upcoming features.

With the leveling system, while reaching the maximum level, you will get:

- 1,000 Warpstone
- 8 Common items (same quality as the ones in the shop)
- 24 Uncommon items
- 8 Epic items

This includes not only players’ parts, but also pitches, grandstands, coaches, cheerleaders, balls and dugout among other things.

Once we hit Season 1, The Blood Pass will also bring its fair share of free rewards, including Warpstone. As a reminder, you will also be able to get the new team Faction of the season for free when reaching the last tier of the Blood Pass.

We can’t stress this enough; we want players to be able to unlock a lot of content for free. Yes, there is a possibility to pay for content, and we have premium items, including a few legendary ones that are more expensive. But they are cosmetic only, they do not give any advantage. They are meant to stand out on the pitch, equipped on your key players.

We’ve also seen some of the leaks regarding future teams in the game and the suggestion that these are already finished.
As we’re sure you understand, the development of a game is complex. The factions we plan to release for Blood Bowl 3 are still under development each at varying degrees of completion.

In order to meet our season release date, we have a dedicated team working on the future factions with a high focus on the next one coming with Season 1.

At the current stage, 1 team is at a more advanced stage of development with still a lot of testing and validation to make.

We will share more about each team when they are finished and ready to be revealed.

As you may or may not be aware, an error on Steam caused all players to incorrectly receive the Brutal Edition of the game regardless of the version they purchased.

This error is really unfortunate but we don’t want to punish players for the mistake. With that in mind, we will not remove the 1000 Warpstone players who hadn’t purchased the Brutal edition received. However, we will have to remove the cosmetic bonuses that are only available to players of the Brutal Edition.

We’d also still like to further reward players who brought the Brutal Edition to apologize for the mistake

We will credit:

- 1,000 Warpstone to all Brutal Edition players
- And an additional 250 Warpstone to Early Unlock players for their troubles

This way, Brutal Edition players will still have a 1,000 Warpstone bonus. With this bonus and yesterday’s compensation, this will make a total bonus of 1,500 Warpstone for the Early Unlock players, which we hope seems fair.

We understand this does not solve everything, but we hope that it will at least ease this feeling and show our gratitude. We will always follow this policy with our community.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to apologize for the server issues leading up to and during launch. This has been our main concern since the start of the Early Unlock. Since yesterday’s patch our servers are more stable.

We had no general crashes of them. It’s not perfect yet, but we will continue to work on it until it is as our main priority.

And finally, we’d like to speak to the concern that the issues with Blood Bowl arose from the development team’s split attention, with the release of Chef Life on the same day.

Just to clarify - Chef Life and Blood Bowl 3 have always had two completely separate teams. The fact that the two games were released on the same day may have created that confusion, but that’s just a coincidence of the calendar.

Thanks for reading and that’s it for today. We will continue to communicate in the future as often as it’s needed. You will have a lot of updates, might it be via news, videos, or live stream during the Pre-Season to address everything and keep you aware of all our progress.

Thank you for your time and for being so passionate about Blood Bowl. No matter the disappointment, we can always see the passion behind it and that is something that keeps us going and motivates us to turn things around.

The Blood Bowl team.

They will lose a lot of potential players if they won't change the current business model. 1000 "warpstone" for reaching max level is really underwhelming, considering that it lets you to fully equip maybe 2 or 3 players. Blood Bowl is about winning and looking fancy, and judging by Steam forums - a lot of people want fancy looking teams without having to spend dozens of $$$.

Is "Warpstone" the ingame currency?

And they're having a "Battle Pass" which will unlock a new race if maxed out, if I understand this correctly. I supposed you will have to pay for the Battle Pass and to upgrade it?

A bit unfair and convoluted, that they don't separate cosmetics and races, if you ask me.

Some people just want the race, while some care more about cosmetics.

The whole liveservice thing seems to be a half-assed mixture of incompetence and greed.

Battlepass alone guarantees i will never touch this game with a 10 foot pole.

The only reason i would have considered getting this when bb2 is still perfectly fine would be the cosmetics but only if i could unlock them in game at my own pace, sod these psychological tricks where they want to create artificial scarcity and prey on players feeling like they are missing out aswell as punishing people for not playing the game regularly or buying it late (if i buy the game in let’s say 2 years time, i’ll have missed out on every time they gave away free bison bucks as well as the bp rewards).

Tldr any game that disrespects my time and tries to bribe or manipulate me with casino money isn’t worth it in my book, and i loathe the whales that reward and encourage this trend with the fire of a thousand suns.

I played in a number of rather big BB2 leagues and the (sometimes 100s of) teams had all kinds of variety. I think there's always a general inclination to take XYZ-skills, sure. But there isn't a firm conclusion how to build pieces because there's an ebb and flow to when and how you get certain skills, and every injury/death or matchup increases probabilities that you might take something a little screwy to account for the unseen changes. Then you mix in the casino-aspect of rolling doubles or getting stat ups and over the course of seasons teams all start to look pretty unique. The new rulebook kinda kneecaps this a bit and I think with digital games, where players can rapidly play a large amount of games, the likelihood builds get min-maxed and set in stone is pretty high, and there aren't as many random occurrences to shake things up anymore.

Not reflected in my own experiences, but I never found FUMBBL leagues to be all that mystical. In my experience, the top-shelf of the BB2 leagues were steadily becoming very, very good BB players. It's just a numbers game, really: the video game format drew in a ton of fresh talent. You have a vastly larger pool of players you're going to have more skill rising out of it just by simple math. Of course, this also affects the averages. The average FUMBBL player is definitely way better than the average BB2 player. Your average BB2 player can probably be confused for AI at times.

I'm not keen to the changes because, in digital format, game design like this will likely end up min-maxed. There's of course a min-max approach to BB2's teams, but I don't think it's as set in stone as a lot of people believe, and there's enough RNG in the team comp to radically shift how a team operates. The RNG is also what differentiated teams from each other, and what made monster-players really cool to develop or face on the pitch.

Cutter-cookie builds were a thing before as well and I saw a plenty of people ignore doubles, because said double didn't align with their build.

In BB3 the changes mean you can reliably get any skill you want, but getting reliable skills will also mean getting behind people who take chances (or even focus just on taking primary skills). You might want to take chances in a short league or on players who aren't that valuable and have a high chance of getting something worthwhile out of the random selection of skills. You also won't increase your player's value as much with taking random skills as you do with chosen skills, so landing a good random skill can prove more valuable even in long-term as re-buying such players for the next season will give you bit of an edge.

All in all, I think people don't have a full picture of how the changes play yet, which is understandable.

True enough.
It's baffling how they managed to screw up 2 of the biggest (I assume) potential cash cows in the franchise.

Looks like they learn on their mistakes pretty fast:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1016950/view/3678915891718337191

IMO the only needed improvement to the system they talked about in this update is a passive gain of warpstone. Every won multiplayer match should give you a gain of eg. D6 warpstone (with some sort of daily limit to stop passive grinder bots) - this way even f2p players can get some more by just being active players.

Well, their first post suggested that they will keep on brutal raping. Yelling people made a difference as they actually listened and lessened the amount of rape. So I guess it kind of is some sort of damage control.
Maybe they will actually do something about those fucking mutations after people keep on yelling.

Personally I am waiting for some sort of complete edition. Because there is no way in hell I am buying some dumb "season passes":

Also, the game sits at Mixed review score on Steam (43%). That's troubling enough for me to wait until the game is more content-complete and bug-free.

Some good new additions, I can set up formations outside of a match:

Also, now you can save a team template so you can quickly create a team e.g. with unique names which is cool.

the controls feel extremely clunky, it's tedious to do anything in the game... also for some reason (for me at least) the game is straining my eyes, especially the non-grassy pitch:
53CZPwc.png

I tried fiddling with all the settings to make it easier to see what is in the foreground and background but I couldn't improve it... but for some reason they have a colorblind/inclusive setting in option, thanks cyanide...
Lots of usual blood bowl settings for making dodge automatic etc are still not in the game.
The 'microtransactions' are unnoticeable cosmetics which all look the same to me, which is ok, but the game constantly bombards you with notifications about the new cosmetic thing you unlocked which I don't care about. Also, like bb2, this game is made around cutscenes in mind, so when I turn off the cutscenes, some interactions like the apothecary have broken UI, so I have to scroll to the bottom of the map to choose whether I want to use apo or not

Do we have halflings yet?

Look, I'm a simple man, I just want to throw halflings across the board with a tree.
Is that really too much to ask for?
