It proves that first and last victim of war is truth. USA is only special in that it has the most effective propagand machine in the world, and therefore can lie bigger, wider and longer.

And yes, reason for lying/covering truth is probably less a "governmen conspiracy" and more "tell people what they will like to listen. Such as Hollywood having problems now with finding proper villians for films, because Russian or Chinese villian will offend part of their paying auditory and have a hit on sells.
