These guys were/are some of the biggest Rimworld modders, doing such fan favorites as Giddy-up (let you use animals to get around on, instead of just using them to carry items while your dudes walk alongside) and the Vanilla Expanded (more items, more weapons, etc) series.

Ticks quite a few boxes for me but damn, that Don't Starve aesthetics really kills the mood.

If it's anything like the Vanilla Expanded mods, it will be perfectly balanced, with no exploits.

I'm still waiting for a proper, grounded pirates game like Cutthroats, Terror on the High Seas only lacking the stupidity of that game (sea combat was shit and the best way to make money was play the game as an RTS raiding towns just using cannons singly to knock out every threat with because the land combat was even worse than the sea combat).

How grounded do you want your pirate game to be? Are we talking more Treasure Island / Pirates of the Caribbean like Pirates!, or do you want the Ultimate Realistic Pirate Simulator where you're happy you jacked a load of salted pork because it means the crew gets to eat, and there's not a whole lot of gold and doubloons to be had, and you most likely end up dead at an early age?

Get scurvy after 3 months of subsisting on salted fish, have your crew spread STDs among each other cause horny sailors with no access to women turn into faggots, then be keelhauled by mutineers when you refuse to let them gang-rape the chicken you keep in your cabin (you want eggs to bring some variety into your diet).

Then an angry whale knocks over your ship and everyone drowns, except you who wake up on a lonely island where you turn insane and die alone because it's too far away from any ship traffic for you to ever be found.

That reminds me. They did do a pirate themed mod in their series. One wonders whether the mechanic will make it into their game:

Drinking a pirate's 10 day old body sweat and calling it rum. :killit:
