Reg dates can be so misrepresenting, and besides the Codex wasn't the only place those guys posted at). I'll give you that cRPGs had a weak period around that time as well, which might have something to do with it as well, but I don't think that's the whole truth.

Also, I don't mean to say that everyone expressing racist or nazi opinions should be banned, that would be boring. Instead I think like calis and VD that at some point it became too much, and that some originality should be encouraged by a bit harder moderation.

There were no good rpgs in the last years so everybody got used to bitch every new rpg that came out and made jokes about it. And it becomes a habit to just post a single "lol" and "itz dumb" instead of posting why you don´t like that game or what could be changed to make the game interesting.
If you open a thread and ask for a good classic rpg recommendation you get lots of it. But people shouldn´t bitch every new game instantly just for the lulz. There are new worthwhile games out there (so "next gen games" often through mods and fanpatches years later).

Well, Saint got hit by a truck and was left in a coma for about 6 months. He's never really recovered. Roshambo is off doing other shit I think but he comes back once in a blue moon. VD is working on his game and running his own place, though still posting here too... even though I kicked him in the nuts. Shagnak is busy with the family. Rex, whom we also kicked off staff, is running his own site. Role Player left for other RL things if I recall correctly. Volourn is still here. Some of the old-timers like Whipporowill, Zed and Jed have all posted a few things recently. Most of the developers were banned by their employers when we bashed their respective games.

Oddly enough, most people don't live on internet forums for all their lives. They go through a period, post and move on. Same thing happened at NMA, Vault13.net, Terra-Arcanum, Duck and Cover, ye olde Interplay forums, Mistress' Lair (though having that place shut-down and get wiped and restart didn't help their cause) and pretty much every other internet forum in the history of the internet.

This is the part where I ask you to point out all the posters that have expressed genuine racist or nazi opinions that you believe should be banned. I wasn't talking about any "serious" nazis. I know that most people do it as a joke, but the joke is old and tired imo. I also said that I didn't want anybody to get banned just because of expressing nazi opinions, so I'm not sure why you are going on about that.

This place is comparable to 4chans /b/ in many ways, especially the whole decline thing. My take on solving the problem is to try to get rid of some of the shitposters. I guess you could say that this place could gain something from being a bit more elitist, if that makes any sense.
