Don't see how Bethesda screwed over Obsidian. Are publishers under some obligation to provide bonuses for contract agreements that haven't been met?
New Vegas's bugginess was a factor in the lower scores. did review copies come with the bug fix patch that came out the day after the game was released? If not then it's possible that that patch alone could have raised the average review score by a single percentage point. If they'd had a little extra time to integrate those bug fixes into the game itself rather than needing to patch it they might well have seen that bonus. Add Roguey's claim that Bethesda pushed the game's release date forward and it looks like Obsidian didn't meet their contract requirements because of Bethesda's actions, ie Bethesda screwed over Obsidian.

That's like blaming the teacher for collecting the homework before you're done with it. You were supposed to do it yesterday, the teacher doesn't have to wait until the last second of class. If that patch alone could raise the score to 85%, then Obsidian didn't meet the requirements because of their own actions, releasing a buggy game.

The "teacher" was used to teaching special ed and wasn't prepared to put in the time for properly checking the term paper of a gifted student.

Since Bethesda handled Q&A, it's more like the teacher assigning an essay, telling you he will handle spellchecking, then failing you for not spelling correctly.

Hence "Bethesda pushed the release date forward". Sure the teacher doesn't have to wait until Friday to collect your homework, but if you were doing your homework under the assumption that you had until Friday, it won't be ready if the teacher decides to collect it on Thursday.

Hmmm. Yeah, there's that. It was released in...*checks* early November 2010. Wonder how much they pushed forward, I don't see Obsidian cleaning up their mess in one month or two (they released a patch a week after release but that was with all the user reports).

New Vegas had a day one patch. It fixed over 300 quest and scripting issues.

How in the fuck did Bethesda screw Obsidian?

If two kids are playing with a hammer and one goes to the other "hey, hit your head really hard! It'll make you feel great" and the second kid smashes his head with the hammer and dies is it the first kids fault? No, because stupidity falls on the person who's stupid.

Obsidian was stupid for accepting the terms. Bitching about it later is moronic and they deserved whatever resulted from such a poor decision. Bethesda may be a douchebag but I don't blame them in this situation.

More like, the first kid says to the second kid, fuck yourself with the hammer... or you starve. And every other kid the second kid goes to, has similar terms. Having no other option, the second kid whores himself to feed himself scraps.

No one is forcing Obsidian to make video games at a loss.

EDIT: If the industry is so toxic then they should get out for their own sanity and safety and let it crash.

Was KSer an option in that era?

Irrelevant. The people at Obsidian, on a glance, seem like decent people. Their upper management should not be putting them through such crap out of desperation. Such desperation only encourages the bad behavior of big publishers. If it's that bad they shouldn't give in to such demands and either explore other avenues or get out of the industry.

thats what obsidian was reduced to bro, thier baby was sold and raped. For a chance to work with it, they ahd to whore themselves.

And they weren't FORCED to work with it. They CHOOSE to.

You know, that thing called C&C? You'd think they would understand that well, but I guess that doesn't apply to the real world.

You would choose to play nice with the pimp too, if he bought your child and raped it.

No one forces Obsidian to do the bethesda buttlicking they do. They choose to.
