Haha. So much for the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate. At least with Dragon Age you could see they'd actually tried, at least until EA entered the picture. Here it's as if they simply said "Ah, fuck it. We're not fooling anyone anymore".

I admit that I'll try it, but this looks dumbed down in every way compared to DA:O. The decline continues.

The designer in the second video does say that the combat is the same as DA:O on the PC version though.

Doesn't look that bad.
It wouldn't look bad if it was a hack'n slash, like Dungeon Siege III. But it supposed to be a cRPG.

@Stabwound, I will also play it, but I'm not getting my hopes up for the PC version.

Well, they openly state that they want to appeal to CoD audience:
Nowgamer said:
With Dragon Age II’s release imminent, senior producer Fernando Melo feels the sequel has far more reach than Origins, even potentially attracting the same kind of crowd that flocks to gaming’s biggest franchise, Call Of Duty.

Speaking to NowGamer Melo said: “We have data that shows there are a lot of people that enjoy playing RPGs although they won’t necessarily call them RPGs. They’ll play Fallout, Assassin’s Creed and even Call Of Duty, which have these progression elements – you’re putting points into things – but they don’t necessarily associate that as an RPG. So we think that if we expand that out we’ll attract a much bigger audience.”

There’s certainly logic in his thinking, and with individuals who failed to be enticed by BioWare’s original epic actually being swayed by the sequel –not to mention the upcoming demo giving gamers a chance to sample its goods first – there’s every change Dragon Age II may succeed in this goal.

I don't see why the marketing/hype insists on "you are a member of the Hawke family" or "you will save Kirkwall" am I supposed to give a fuck about these names? They weren't even in the first game, how is that a selling point?

-Mass Effect: you're going to be Jack Bauer in space, do whatever it takes to get the job done/save the world
-The Witcher: you're going to be Geralt, legendary card collector
-DA2: You're going to be Hawke, of the Hawke family, he has a bra or bro

-DA1: You're going to stop an archdemon dragon and his troll army, in the process you will become a hero among many nations/groups

-DA2: You're going to become the hero of kirkwall, it's like a town and stuff.

Graphics look the same as DAO, some wow-ish art and improved lighting. Noticed a lot of reused art assets from the previous game, same clothes, rogues will still be running around in skirts and knee-high boots, large shields carried on your back will hide the character.

Not disappointed about the optional action combat system as first game's combat was standard rt w/pause crap, whether or not the action alternative is any good can't be seen from footage, only hands-on.

Figurehead for the game promises more side-content than in DA1, says gathering money/power is central to the plot and being nice might hurt that, sounds promising, but all signs point to ME2-fication of the game, extra side content doesn't fit.

Yo, where's the DMC combat? I just saw what looks to be an incredibly shitty excuse for combat, complete of course with all the hallmarks of a terrible action game: stiff animations, bad hitboxes, boring looking enemy AI routines, and a general feeling of staleness all about.

Tip to Bioware...you suck at making action games (harro Jade Empire sucky sucky long time) and shooters (Mass Effect 2)...contract some specialists, study up, or stop trying.

Though, yeah, :salute: to racofer.

Moo?
Why do they keep trying for a different audience than the one that made their previous games extremely profitable?

Just because a shooter fan enjoys a light progression element in his FPS, doesn't mean he's going to be attracted to a hack n' slash rpg. That doesn't make any sense.

This.
DMC 1 & 3 had pretty damn good combat, imo. I'd gladly buy and play this if it had combat on par with DMC3. This, unfortunately, seems to be nothing of the sort.

Truth.

Heh, they've managed to produce even worse animations.

Why do they even use (useless) stats anymore in an action game?

So that Bioware can wave a flag around saying "RPG" to all the clueless people :(?
