Yeah, this is probably one of the parts they translated accurately. Japs love using gays for comedy, and putting the MC into that position appeals to fujos. It is what it is.

DQ8 ps2 is harder than the default difficulty DQ11, not as tough as hard mode DQ11. Not sure about the 3ds port but it's probably easier. The character building is comparatively much simpler, but it's still a good game.
