SLA Industries, man. One of the greats. I'll never be able to find a group for this again.Play scifi instead.:
As an aside, Dune is one of the greatest boardgames ever created.
Sky's the limit but one I enjoy is making a Samsaran Juju Oracle necromancer-type guy. Make sure to grab Enervation early on through Mystic Past Life to get Juju Zombies 6 levels earlier. Raise Fast Zombies/Plague Zombies until you get the juju kind. Also get Desecrate. Fun fun fun but not really fair to the rest of the party, you become too powerful. What do you mean by "easily broken"?
If Basic Fantasy RPG doesn't quite fit the bill you could also check this list of D&D OSR retro-clones which gives you a ton of options (many of them have free versions) : http://taxidermicowlbear.weebly.com/dd-retroclones.html
Of course, I don't think the list is meant to be a detailed analysis or review - just a starting point to see what's out there. It functions well for its intent - to list just about every D&D-based OSR RPG that exists. If Basic Fantasy RPG doesn't quite fit the bill you could also check this list of D&D OSR retro-clones which gives you a ton of options (many of them have free versions) : http://taxidermicowlbear.weebly.com/dd-retroclones.html
A lot of breadth, but the depth is kiddy-pool level. Those summaries don't do a lot of the systems justice. There's no way to compare, in context, how one system in a sub-genre compares to another.
