What are some good recent adventure games, set in a medieval or traditional high fantasy type universe?

Heroine's Quest has gotten a lot of praise from players (including here), and it's free. The Codex's own Blackthorne has made a few medieval adventures, including the recent Order of the Thorne titles.

Two games by Crystal Shard, both have beautiful hand drawn VGA graphics and both are free. http://crystalshard.net/

A Tale of Two kingdoms

One Of the best adventure games of the recent years, reminiscent of the classic King's Quest games, only IMO it's actually better, with an excellent story of machinations and betrayal between two kingdoms, a nice open-ish world to explore and multiple solutions to some puzzles.

Heroine's Quest
Adventure/RPG hybrid similar to the Quest For GLory series. It's the up there with the best the QfG series had to offer.
