I Need Educating

Avernum 1-3 are awesome and old skool. Get them immediately.

Get Exile 1-3 instead. Same game and not as hideous. Avernum is the kind of game that makes you gouge out your eyeballs with a rusty spoon. Avernum is so ugly, if you show it to pregnant mothers their babies will be flushed out of their uterus by the sheer convulsions that looking at Avernum causes. Avernum is so hideous that you will envy everyone who is blind once you lay eyes upon it, and you will doubt that there's a God, because if there was one, why would he allow a festering eyesore like this to exist?

Hell, I am completely willing to overlook the graphics if it weren't for those god damn potraits.

The game's idea of potraits are a bunch of crudely drawn figures. To make it worse, they occupy only 1/4th of the avatar bars, leaving alot of empty space. Why have those potraits in the first place?

The ugliness is not in the graphics. It's in the whole package.

To each his own, as Cleve's buddies used to say. Anyway, the gameplay is great. Not much roleplaying, but an awesome feeling of adventure and many a plesant dungeon crawl.
