Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I was pleasantly surprised by this game. It is anim-ey(Chinese), but very solid. You get yout usual city improvement windows and tech tree, but you also get a troop improvement tree.
It is pretty macro (you don't get build point: each city produces gold, tech, and "hammers", that are used to purchase troops (gold and hammers) and troop upgrades (hammers), city improvements(gold), and techs(tech...). All purchases are instant, but city upgrades are limited by their "level", as they get some XP every turn.
Most of the time is moving your armies and heroes, but the tech and troop improvement choices really matter.
Techs are split among 3 subsets: economic, military, and magic.
Also, the AI is not inept, which is rare in a 4X. The game is still in EA, but already quite good.
Also, the map troop limit, and movement speed makes it avoid the traffic jam problem of its Firaxis competitor.

So it's like The Battle for Wesnoth, except that graphics give you eye cancer?
Not really: there is no campaign with carry over units and heroes. Unlike in BfW, ranged weapons fire from afar. Also the maps are larger, and there are some economic/Tech considerations.

Warlock would be a better comparison actually.
