Awwwwwwww!

...see, remaking it for NWN2 did cross my mind. But a lot of what makes Phantasie appealing to me is that it is actually really turn-based, and using NWN2 for it would require a lot of class retrofitting, and in the end, be a giant rip of its story (which was meh) and not the mechanics. It'd be a neat dungeon-crawl, but that's it. I'd like to make it as something for the DS.

But I can definitely appreciate the effort of it and want to play it ;)

The game has the Nine Rings, the Black Knights, J.R. Trolkin...I don't think I need to go further other than saying it's tongue-in-cheek to lighten the gameplay. It's an entertaining little romp for its era though, and has the brief time-to-finish factor.

I trained the Wizard and Monk up to level 5, with the others for the most part going up to level 3. I decided to get to level 4 with my Ranger so that I have two spellcasters that can cast Healing 2. I certainly feel that we should be able to make some runs to Woodville where we can possibly milk demons for God weapons.

I wanted to let the people following this thread know that I've not stopped playing. My weekend was tied up with other activities. I got my first major combat win against two Black Knights with my level 3-5 group. That's an outstanding kill for a party of this level, and I'm taking it a bit cautious for some encounters. I had to run away on a few of them, but I did get quite a bit of good experience and some gold. Woodville is for the most part completed, but I'll check out if the demons I remember from the Atari version are still lurking in that dark alley.

I found the God Knife in Woodville. It was not quite where I remembered it to be. Now since the dungeon can only be done once for each Knife, I'll see if the other dungeons reset. So I'll probably just crush all resistance in dungeons 1 and 2 for easy experience and gold.

Ten new videos including my previously mentioned smackdown of the Black Knights. If that's not a lot of action, I don't know what is. The last video has our group getting the God Knife. If Kingcomrade was included in the group of adventurers, I'm sure he'd be salivating over one of the best melee weapons in the game.

I think magical weapons with +enhancements and the God weapons can hit those ethereal foes like spirits.

Those single hit spells can often give out low damage hits, so the mass damage ones are nice backup spells. Magic potions help, but there is still the character and level limit for spell points. You'll never have any character over 20 spell points.

I cannot TELL you how much it pisses me off to cast Fireflash IV and get something measly like 10 damage. WHAT THE SHIT.

That's part of why I'd like to remake the game. A lot of good, and a fair degree of unbalanced poopie. Scrape out the doots, a little graphical pinch to the cheeks, you got somethin' good goin' on.

...FACIAL cheeks, you bunch of pervs.

I do intend to attempt fighting the minor deity and Zeus before entering the final dungeon. Zeus has 666 hit points and may be pretty tough to take down.

I had forgotten that to get the Earth rune in the second dungeon, you need to do the third dungeon to get the Fire rune. I'll do another Woodville run, and head for Lord Wood's castle after training.

Thanks for the encouragement! If I was in it for the video views or post count, you'd know that by now. My second run to Woodville went without a hitch. Training will be done before we raid Lord Wood's castle. Then it's to the magic pools and that bastard J.R. Trolkin after we collect our third and last God Knife. Unfortunately, ethereal enemies are unable to get hit by the God weapons(except perhaps with the Thrust attack). Still, with half the party armed with the best weapons in the game at roughly the 1/3 point is pretty darn good. I'm not looking forward to some dungeons like the Dosnebian Temple and of course the final dungeon, but our group should be able to handle things well. I'll likely be using the magic potions and healing stuff a bit more liberally, but that's the purpose of keeping them so that you can keep going longer thru a dungeon without having to head back.

P.S. - I think the most WTF-inducing dungeon will likely be the Bleebs with those irritating logic puzzles.

11 new videos, although a good portion of them are going thru dungeons a second time. I was able to get the group advanced in levels, but we're now seriously depleted in gold. I suppose some good news is that with all the experience needed to advance the Wizard and Monk, everyone else should be catching up soon in terms of being able to train.

I know I'm milking Woodville, but it's completely worth it for those God Knives. Our group is now in a range of level 5-10. Level 15 is the maximum, but I doubt we'll hit that mark for everybody. The Wizard now has decent mass damage capability with Mindblast 3 at level 10. Some spells in Phantasie are like the Dag Mentar spell from Ultima 3, and can kill a number of enemies.

I checked the walkthru, and our party would need to get to all the magic pools before entering Lord Wood's castle. Magic pools provide random changes to the statistics of your characters(it multiplies a random attribute by two and deducts ten random points IIRC), so you have to make sure that any characters that you rolled to be able to use the God Knife can still do so. Each weapon has a point value in order to use, and the total is based on (Strength*2) + Dexterity. God Knives have a point value requirement of 54.

I remember saving at the nearest inn before I went to each. Aggravating when playing on a C64 and having to load each step again and again.

I found that the attributes increase 2-3 points for just one attribute. You could 'milk' it, but I decided to take what it gave my party. Luzur needs to improve his swimming skill, so that means we can do Lord Wood's Castle, J.R. Trolkin's lair, and do a final run in Woodville for the last God Knife we can use in combat and then train up before we head for the Bleeb dungeon.

Yes! That bastard J.R. Trolkin is down! I got to use a bit of the Wizard's mass damage firepower. Lord Wood's Castle and the lair of J.R. Trolkin are taken care of. I'll be resting and redistributing, but this is looking like the point in the game where our adventures start to become profitable and our party can have leftover gold. One more run to Woodville to get the final God Knife, and then it's training time. I can't think of a reason to not go for both the Bleeb dungeon and the Dosnebian temple after the training. Luzur gets priority for training since he really needs to get 100 for the swimming skill.

Nine videos for the Nine Rings(not quite, but I thought I'd use the reference). During the course of the videos, we take care of the magic pools, check out Lord Wood's castle, and bring some smackdown to J.R. Trolkin.

If I'm counting correctly, each video is ~9 minutes long on average. With 40 videos, that makes it roughly six hours. I know for a fact I'm past the mid-point of the game, so I just might make it under ten hours for the whole adventure.
