Derpsona 4 anime adaptation's main character is really subtle:

That was hilarious. And I thought Persona 4 anime was shit.

It started of quite well, it was a rather faithful adaptation at the beginning.
Only the spergiest of people would've noticed changes, for example when Yu sticks his hand in the TV, there were no lights reflecting in the window.

As the episodes went by, the writers grew bolder and gave the anime its own voice. Some of the additions were good, this is mostly reflected in the gags, the more verbose character introductions they've done for others like Mitsuo, and a lot of the scenes over the main course of events were improved when compared to the game.
Things stay that way until after the culture festival (it's Japan, ever school has one!), but after that, things just become incredibly forced and hamfisted.


But the side content, as in the Social Links, they all suffer immensely in this adaptation, almost no time is spent on them, and those time is spent on, are affected in horrible ways.
Take the Strength link for example, with sporting aces Daisuke and Kou. The anime follows the basketball club and would have follows Kou's story, only they dumped all his backstory with the orphanage in favour of.... him wanting to ask Chie on a date. No really, they dump ALL of his backstory for THAT.

And that video lightbane posted above, every single moment you see in that video with Eri (Temperance), Hisano (Death), and Sayoko (Devil), that's ALL the time spent in the ENTIRE anime on building up their social links (and he somehow maxes them before the 8/20 festival); They chose instead to spend both episodes they dedicated to them on pointless bullshit, in this case, specifically having Nanako in her Loveline outfit follow her Onii-chan and get jealous that he's hanging around all these older women (instead of playing with her), his friends also join in.

And then there's this Detective Loveline (that's Lo-ve-line, 3 syllables) stuff they added too as Nanako's "favourite cartoon" or somesuch, it's used more as an excuse to justify the above, but it otherwise adds absolutely nothing.

I too asked myself that very same question at the start of the update.
I too have as many answers as everyone else.

My guesses would hinge on one of the following
1. Maximum Fan service for minimum work (aka, Atlus was lazy)
2. The writing dictates they just didn't think of it, if they had I'm sure Kanji's mother could've arranged something.
3. They were following the precedent of more "mature" boys not wearing yukata as set in pop culture.

Come to think of it, I've never seen an anime or read a manga in which middle/high school boys did wear yukatas... except for Chihayafuru (good series), but those are technically classified as "hakama."

Judging from some VNs with similar festival scenes, it could simply be Wapanese sexism. I've only seen Wapanese men in traditional clothing for marriage.

Considering the game was made by the Japanese and feature minors who are Japanese, I don't think an argument like "Wapanese sexism" applies here.

Just wanted to draw attention to this blatantly false point I made a bit earlier.
Various anime and manga set in Feudal Japan completely slipped my mind, men and women alike often wear proper kimonos throughout. But otherwise I think it's mostly boys in elementary school that do in pop culture... with a few exceptions sprinkled here and there in which hakama is worn for Archery.

I should probably reexamine the last episode of Shinsekai Yori, I think Satoru (26 years of age) was wearing a yukata.
