Twisted Rune is a separate quest, but doing it first will significantly boost The Codex' fighting chance against Kangaxx, because they have Staff of the Magi (which works as a +5 weapon).
But you can't cheese them so easily as Kangaxx...

Anyway, we can't do Twisted Rune yet, because we need a Roguestone for that (and that means doing Mae'var's Guild first). At the moment I will be rolling between Firkraag and Kangaxx (two votes each). Either way, I don't envy our hero.

If the choice is between Firkraag and Kangaxx, let's cheese the fight deal with Kangaxx first. Our hero dying a lot is part of the fun, but let's be fair-play and give him a fighting chance. Once he has the Ring of Gaxx, then we can send him without remorse to Firkraag's dungeon, the Twisted Rune, etc.

The ring of Gaxx must be ours. I'm sure the Codex won't mind being anally raped by a floating skull four dozen times to get it.

Do you even have anything to beat him with?
Not at the moment.

We could kill one more lich and pick up Daystar, or go to the Druid Grove and pick up Flame Tongue. I don't quite remember if the +4 has to be the basic bonus of the weapon used against Kangaxx.

Barterman sells a staff +4, but I don't remember if it's before or after you've been to the Underdark.

EDIT : Apparently, Flame Tongue works but Daystar doesn't. And there's also a sling sold by one of the bonus merchants.

Yeah, Daystar doesn't work, I've tried fighting Kangaxx with it in one past playthrough and he just raped me, laughing sinisterly all the way. Flame Tongue being able to hurt him would be a nice surprise.
I'm probably going to use the +5 sling, but we will see.

BTW, next update is planned for today tomorrow.

If you installed g3 fixpack Daystar should work agaisnt Kangaxx. They fixed all problems related to wrong weapon enchantments:

g3fixpack doc (down to Enchantment Level Errors)

The engine does not handle weapons such as the Bastard Sword +1/+3 vs. Shapeshifters, Hammer +1/+4 vs. Giantkin, and Daystar +2/+4 vs. Evil Creatures consistently. In all but a few cases, the weapon uses the higher of the two bonuses as its enchantment level. All weapons of this nature use the higher of the two bonuses as their enchantment; i.e. Daystar will be treated as a +4 weapon.

Last time on Let's Insane Solo Baldur's Gate 2:

bg2_up16_011.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ouch! Bad dogs!

But overall it was a pretty disappointing update with only two deaths! However, before You all leave in search of a more bloody LP, stay for a while more and see what we have to offer this time. :smug:

codex_10.jpg
Why do I feel I won't like what's coming?

Update #17: Bad Religion, Part III - So, Yeah, Beholders

bg2_up17_000.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wow, kind of an eerie place. It's like we're suddenly in a different game.

bg2_up17_001.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Spiders appearing out of thin air. Good thing I'm invisible.

Hidden.

codex_10.jpg
Same thing.

bg2_up17_002.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Kind of botched your ambush, didn't I?

bg2_up17_003.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No harm done. You would all die anyway.

bg2_up17_004.jpg

Touching the wall seems to have released more monsters.

codex_10.jpg
Touching? I merely looked at it.

Don't do this again. And I'm serious. These guys spawn every time.

codex_10.jpg
Every time? We could farm some XP then...

We don't do such things, and You know it.

bg2_up17_005.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This mist-ghost thing does not seem to be affected by my invisibilty.

It's a wandering horror. Not unlike Yourself.

codex_10.jpg
Still better than incorporeal asshole.

bg2_up17_006.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let me just pull it away from the others.

bg2_up17_007.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What is it with these farting enemies recently?

Food must be really bad around here. Which enemy we've met recently was the lowest in the food chain?

codex_10.jpg
Goblins? No, kobolds.

There You go.

bg2_up17_009.jpg

The spiders are easily killed off.

codex_10.jpg
I've been killing these since Cloakwood Forest. No idea why anyone would think they are any challenge at this point.

bg2_up17_010.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What is this? Some Yuan-Ti revenge for nishruuing their only mage a while ago?

bg2_up17_011.jpg

The revenge proves to be almost successful and our hero has to resort to magic to win the fight.

codex_10.jpg
I would win anyway. I'm just... speeding things up.

Of course.

bg2_up17_012.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There we go.

bg2_up17_013.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh look, they actually have another mage!

bg2_up17_014.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Why are you removing my spell protection if I don't have any, you moron!

bg2_up17_015.jpg

codex_10.jpg
The trains went... that way!

The Codex gets chaosed and starts running around aimlessly, while we're counting down seconds until the death screen appears.

bg2_up17_016.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Damn ponies! DIE DIE DIE!

At some point The Codex decides to randomly attack the nearest creature, whoch probably saves his life, blocking the mage from casting any spells.

bg2_up17_017.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Where the fuck am I?

You managed to escape Your enemy while being confused, which is quite a feat. And after You shot him with some arrows, he wisely decided not to pursue anymore and limited himself to stay in one place and cast True Sight.

codex_10.jpg
True Sight?

bg2_up17_018.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm wearing the cloak of non-detection, fool!

Critical hit backstab and a new record of 104 damage in one hit! Yuan-Ti mage's tissues exploded from the strain.

codex_10.jpg
Nice.

bg2_up17_019.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It's a wonder how these enemies did not kill each other, given the variety and proximity of various groups.

We start shooting the Mummy with magic arrows, retreating as it draws nearer.

bg2_up17_020.jpg

We eventually arrive at the entrance, since the Mummy's piercing resistance makes arrows only partially effective. Even Lilarcor only deals half the normal damage.

codex_10.jpg
But he still KICKS ASS!

lilarcor1.jpg
Yes I do!

bg2_up17_021.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It seems that the mummy wasn't alone.

Good thing its friends did not join the party.

codex_10.jpg
Meh. At least there would have been some challenge.

bg2_up17_022.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nothing more than target practice.

bg2_up17_023.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Another mummy. I bet there is even more undead beyond the fog of war.

bg2_up17_024.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's see how they like TO BURN!

bg2_up17_025.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No need to waste arrows. Magic missile should do the trick.

bg2_up17_026.jpg

codex_10.jpg
As I thought, it's some sort of undead group date.

bg2_up17_027.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I vaguely remember the time when ghasts were dangerous. Seems like ages ago now.

bg2_up17_028.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Actually, Lilarcor, if KFC served undead chickens, it would actually be an :incline: .

bg2_up17_029.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Thanks for the hint...

bg2_up17_030.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, it was a classic schmuck bait. Good thing I'm too clever for something like this.

bg2_up17_031.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Easy.

bg2_up17_032.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Meh. I'm sure you can do better than that.

bg2_up17_033.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, this one was a little better, but also too arguable.

bg2_up17_034.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Tt's probably not even legal to be as awesome as I am.

bg2_up17_035.jpg

codex_10.jpg
WHAT THE FUCK.

Um, Beholders?

codex_10.jpg
No shit. It's a fucking beholder family trip! Lok, there's papa beholder, mama beholder, aunty beholder and even two cute baby gauths!

Could be worse. They could be joined by granny Elder Orb.

codex_10.jpg
Well, true. But still, fuck.

bg2_up17_036.jpg

codex_10.jpg
How do I even deal with these guys? Will web work on them?

No harm in trying.

codex_10.jpg
I'll make you eat those words if I die here.

bg2_up17_037.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No point in being careless. Enter stinking cloud!

bg2_up17_038.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, that should be enough incapacitating for the moment.

bg2_up17_039.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Looks like it worked! You're all dead now!

bg2_up17_040.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No! Fuck! You were unconscious! YOU WERE UNCONSCIOUS!

bg2_up17_041.jpg

That didn't take long.

Death Count: 96

Loading.

codex_10.jpg
I clearly went too easy on them.

Obviously.

bg2_up17_042.jpg

codex_10.jpg
...and confusion.

bg2_up17_043.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And cloudkill. How do you like it now?!

bg2_up17_044.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ooh, a lonely victim!

bg2_up17_045.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh crap.

bg2_up17_046.jpg

I think we might end up spending some time in this area.

Death Count: 97

Load game.

codex_10.jpg
My family analogy seems to have been correct. These things are linked; if I attack one of them, all of them retaliate.

This could prove to be a problem.

bg2_up17_047.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'll now wait until cloudkill ends, and see if it maybe kills at least one of them.

bg2_up17_048.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nope. And some shadows appeared too, adding insult to injury.

The beholders and gauths are all wounded, though. The question is what do we do with this?

codex_10.jpg
No worries, I will figure this out. Don't help me. It's nice to face a challenge for a change.

Suit yourself.

bg2_up17_049.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'll just kill them all at once using my awesome rod of ice!

bg2_up17_050.jpg

codex_10.jpg
AAAAAARRRRRGHGHGHGHGHHG!

bg2_up17_051.jpg

Indeed.

Death Count: 98

Loading game.

codex_10.jpg
That might not have been the best of ideas after all.

bg2_up17_052.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Since, they're killing me mostly with those shitty cause wound spells, I should be fine if I can reflect them.

In theory.

bg2_up17_053.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Just to be sure, I'll cast this too.

bg2_up17_054.jpg

The result.

Death Count: 99

Reloading.

codex_10.jpg
Actually, I half-expected it to work.

Next plan?

bg2_up17_055.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let me just shoot him with an arroow... in the eye!

And?

bg2_up17_056.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And run away! Um, I mean, retreat!

And?

codex_10.jpg
That's all, really. Have they followed me?

It does not seem so.

codex_10.jpg
Success!

bg2_up17_057.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Before I put the rest of brilliant plan into motion, I need to get rid of those shadows.

bg2_up17_058.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh fuck, it's a bad moment to fail me, hide in shadows!

No worries, more shadows are running towards You, so You can hide among them.

codex_10.jpg
You are so funny, I'm getting a nosebleed every time you make a joke.

bg2_up17_059.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Made it!

bg2_up17_060.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let me just shoot you once...

bg2_up17_061.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Damn, he managed to cas a spell on me. Luckily, my magic resisatnce worked.

Really? This is your plan? You're going to hit and run them with single arrows?

codex_10.jpg
Why?

It will take hours!

codex_10.jpg
I am a very patient demigod.

You're everything but patient!

codex_10.jpg
Not when I'm fighting beholders.

bg2_up17_062.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Another successful attack!

I can't believe we're really doing this.

codex_10.jpg
Should have bought me shield of Balduran, when you had the chance.

bg2_up17_064.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, ouch, fuck! Whew, I'm not dead.

I wish I was.

codex_10.jpg
Just say the word.

bg2_up17_065.jpg

codex_10.jpg
More shadows. Would be nice to get rid of them.

bg2_up17_066.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Alright, I have you right where I want you.

bg2_up17_067.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's see if you manage to close in on me before I kill you.

bg2_up17_068.jpg

codex_10.jpg
AHA! Who's the boss! Of course, I am!

bg2_up17_069.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well said, Lilarcor, well said.

bg2_up17_070.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Don't move...

Oh, FFS.

bg2_up17_071.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Aha!

Alright, alright, time out. I can't stand it anymore. I believe there is only one way we can all survive this fight without any wrist cutting involved. You have fun shooting them and running away, while the readers and I listen to some Yakety Sax.

codex_10.jpg
Works for me.

bg2_up17_072.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck...

bg2_up17_073.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Whew.

bg2_up17_075.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hold still...

bg2_up17_076.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No, no, no, no, NO!

bg2_up17_077.jpg

Death Count: 100

bg2_up17_078.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Die!

bg2_up17_079.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ouch!

bg2_up17_080.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Didn't even see me.

bg2_up17_081.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Chaaaaarge!

bg2_up17_082.jpg

Death Count: 101

bg2_up17_083.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh no...

bg2_up17_084.jpg

Death Count: 102

bg2_up17_085.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck yeah!

bg2_up17_086.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Steady...

bg2_up17_087.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's see how this works.

bg2_up17_088.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You're so dead now.

bg2_up17_089.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Where the fuck are you going!

bg2_up17_090.jpg

codex_10.jpg
...

bg2_up17_091.jpg

Death Count: 103

bg2_up17_092.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Enough is enough.

bg2_up17_094.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Don't follow me now...

bg2_up17_095.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Good thing I stopped here.

bg2_up17_096.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm baaaack.

bg2_up17_097.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I have a gift for you.

bg2_up17_098.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hope you like it!

bg2_up17_099.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wow, this really is taking a while.

bg2_up17_100.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Alright. I believe it's time to deal the final blow!

What, already? I barely noticed all the time passing...

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you. I've reached this point all by myself, and have greatly enjoyed every second.

Including the deaths?

codex_10.jpg
Well, no, the deaths, not so much...

Let's get on with it.

bg2_up17_101.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Chill, dudes!

bg2_up17_102.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You can't hurt me fast enough, eye-boys! You're going down!

bg2_up17_103.jpg

codex_10.jpg
OHYEAAAAAH! I've just had a fightgasm!

No details please.

bg2_up17_104.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Time for the spoils of war.

bg2_up17_105.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Really? Three fucking beholders, two gauths plus a fuckload of shadows, and the reward is a warhammer +2? :decline:

After claiming it, we move on beyond the beholder area.

bg2_up17_106.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I really hope it's his trunk he's holding there.

bg2_up17_107.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Sounds like a typical MMORPG.

bg2_up17_108.jpg

My turn: sounds like moderators here on the forums.

codex_10.jpg
Ouch.

bg2_up17_109.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nothing is too foolish for The Codex.

bg2_up17_110.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Actually, some respect would be nice. If you knew what I had to endure to get here...

The plot. We dread it, so it shall be obscured from the sight of mortals. Enter at your own risk.

bg2_up17_111.jpg

bg2_up17_112.jpg

bg2_up17_113.jpg

bg2_up17_114.jpg

bg2_up17_115.jpg

Expecting a boss fight and with The Codex completely drained from all spells, we decide to rest before moving on.

codex_10.jpg
I thought beholders were the boss fight?

bg2_up17_116.jpg

This emphatic manifestation must have been reading our previous updates. It knows you hate everything

codex_10.jpg
Seems fishy.

bg2_up17_117.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There, there.

bg2_up17_118.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I like how this demon thing is suspended in mid-air while we talk.

Is there no escape from the plot? It seems to try to sneak it way into the LP from every possible way.

bg2_up17_119.jpg

bg2_up17_120.jpg

bg2_up17_121.jpg

bg2_up17_122.jpg

bg2_up17_123.jpg

bg2_up17_124.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Lame loot too.

At least we got what we came for.

codex_10.jpg
We did? I wasn't really listening.

bg2_up17_125.jpg

codex_10.jpg
So do you guys care or not, make up your mind.

bg2_up17_126.jpg

Area completed!

bg2_up17_127.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Second half? I kind of thought I would just bring this thing to you and you would take over from here.

bg2_up17_128.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Now I see how foolish of me it was to expect any kind of agency from other people.

bg2_up17_129.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I missed this back room before. I'll take this as a payment for my trouble.

bg2_up17_130.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And this too.

bg2_up17_131.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm here to do the job nobody else wants to do.

bg2_up17_132.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Why is everybody so useless? Don't answer, it's a rhetorical question.

bg2_up17_133.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Remind me again. Why did I agree to this?

codex_10.jpg
Well?

Sorry, I thought it was rhetorical question. No idea, to be honest. Seems really stupid.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck this shit.

Next time: The Codex willingly throws himself into the meat grinder. Everybody sympathises...*
* with the meat grinder

Next quest selection details:
Bros, bros, I have a great idea. I know I said we will next choose the quest which gets the most votes, but I wussed out came up with something much better! Instead, I will compile a list of all the suggestions made since the start of the current quest and will use The Codex' dice roll feature to see which one of them will be chosen. Suggestions made by multiple people (like Kangaxx) will of course get multiple entries on the list.
The roll will be made at the end of the next update.

BG2 beholders manage to be a pain in the ass even though they don't have death rays or disintegration rays.

The soon-to-be-found Gauntlets of Dexterity can be pretty useful, but it won't be the case for our hero.

Hilarious.

I don't think I voted next quest so.. all possible liches in the city (Kangaxx at the very least) before they start being underleveled for The Codex.

Wait, you didn't finish the Maevar quest yet? FFS finish that first. How many minutes that can take at this point?

I remember killing the Unseeing Eye without using the artifact and then ditching that emo-temple to keep the assembled rod of supreme godly smiting power for myself. Of course, that would have been too awesome to allow, so about the time when I left the sewers, the game totally gaidered me and TUK MAH ROD in some arbitrary and typically BioWarian way.

I remember that the Unseeing Eye is a cheating bastard who knows exactly when your HP are low enough to make you vulnerable to Power Word Kill.
