GTA4 did combat encounters better. It had popamole gameplay too but lack of regen and rare medkits made up for it somewhat. In other words GTA4 did Mafia1 better than Mafia2.

I guess with where it's going Mafia2 can be just fun for a pair of hours running around wrecking havoc in the gameworld but that can get boring very fast too.

Me neither, but I doubt they dropped it, would see no reason for it. Anyone managed to pull out a gun in car?

In missions with a car, Joe often rides with you and he'll sometimes be driving. Drive by shooting as been completely taken out. Joe will shoot out of the window when you're driving and you may be able to return the favor when he's driving.

They completely dropped it out because some consoletards who played the original on PC complained that shooting from the car was too hard.

Fucking Microsoft made it Gold only for Xbox and my xbox is the only thing that could run the game. I hate fucking Microsoft sometimes. It's total horseshit. Shouldn't have to pay money for multiplayer to get the DEMO for a SINGLE PLAYER fucking game. Fucking jews, man.

Oh for fuck's sake man.

I actually had a cousin of mine tell me he was "happy they took it out, it was too hard" and that he prefers health regeneration because he's bad at shooter games.

I felt like strangling the air out of him at that point. :x

Wow looks like they went full retardo with this one.

You're gonna pirate it right?

. Regeneration is VERY fast

Not really. You get caught in the open, you die. Simple as.

First the game threw at you two enemies

Good, it's not a war game.

Cars have GPS in '50s

I ain't stopping every 30 seconds to hit up the M key or select button to figure out where i'm going, so fuck your noise.

Also graphics are 5 years old. Fucking consoles.

no, and the visuals on pc are about a shitload better than the console versions.

I really liked how you had to be very very careful in Mafia1. Trying not to get shot, proceeding carefully. It's so different here.

Mafia 1 was "difficult" (lol?) becuase the baddies had the fucking accuracy of a terminator armed with a rail gun, in otherwords, they were cheating bastards.

Mafia 2 is way more arcadey than Mafia 1,

Mafia was an arcadey game period, it was one of the first "popamole" games on pc.

No car shootouts is bullshit though, very dissapointing.

That's strange. 10 policemen couldn't do shit to me and I was running around shooting them up and collecting their weapons

Minimap is not informative I need quest compass to tell me where to turn when I'm running away from cops!!1

Looks worse than GTA4 at times.

Mafia was much more difficult than what we have here yes. And no enemies didn't cheat. Or maybe I was good at dodging bullets* because I died rarely?

*proceeding carefully

As for cheating enemies - Mafia2 demo had at least two of them. The Fat Guy and the guy with molotov coctails - bullets didn't hurt them at all until trigger allowed otherwise.

Mafia was an arcadey game period, it was one of the first "popamole" games on pc.
There was no popamole in Mafia, sry

Invulnerable enemies in GTA 4 made me rage. Though, to be honest, I thought it was a beautiful game on PC, with all the shit maxed out. I loved the sunsets, the rain effect, all the details of the city. The character models, especially in the cutscenes, were pretty bad, however.

@MetalCraze: I died constantly in Mafia 1 and it often felt that enemies had some weird lock-on system in their heads, especially on that level where you assassinate a guy in the restaurant of a hotel, then escape across the rooftops. I must have replayed that one ten times before I got it right.

Oh and the famous race mission! Man, I'd almiost forgotten all about that one. Replayed it countless times until I actually started having fun racing, strangely enough. Then I beat it and I was like, man, I want to race more!

EDIT: I was quite impressed by the way bodies interacted with the environment in GTA4, especially the way my character's body would bend and twist realistically (well, realistically enough) when being nudged by a car or touching an elevated surface with his foot. That's not as good in Mafia 2.

Racing mission was terrible yes.

But I've never replayed any mission for more than two times because I died. At the mission with rooftops I had more problems at the church (that's the one right?) because of close quarter combat (but fortunately checkpoint was placed there)
At rooftops you just run and run and run. There's only one place where you really need to fight the cops. And they even stuffed it with checkpoints.
F.e. the trainyard didn't even have any up until the boss.

I must have been really reckless then.

I was thinking the other day how cool it would be to have a blend of Mafia-type game and an RTS or RTS/TB top-down style, similar to The Gangsters. You could set up your businesses and criminal activities a week in advance in an overhead menu, then start the week and oversee the proceedings in third-person, walking around your casinos and speakeasies, maybe going to bribe a judge and getting missions from him, conducting raids, defending territory etc. I guess kind of like Battlezone, only with mobsters.

The Godfather game supposedly did something like this, but I've never tried it because it didn't really seem well done according to reviews.

One of such games was in production (Chicago 1930 or something like that) but I don't really remember what happened to it. The developer was "noname" so it probably failed.

But yeah having one like this would've been cool. If everyone just didn't make copypasted console shooters.

I think I played Chicago, but it felt clunky and as though it was trying too hard to rip off Commandos and wasn't suited for it. It did have a charming art style, but it wasn't very compelling.

Still, a game that was trying to be Commandos, think about that for a second. What I'd give for something like that today, even if it failed...

Godfather 2 did this surprisingly well enough in the way that once you got used to the wacky controls and popamole combat, you could actually enjoy. The management stage wasn't great (about as detailed as Jagged Alliance 2 and it's militia) but the taking of new businesses was fun enough, especially since you could plan various ways of doing it. If you're willing to overlook shitty controls, horrible graphics and the lack of a believable story, you could give it a try.

I wouldn't buy it though. I only really played it because I had nothing better to do for a month or so, and I got it for my birthday from a family member who simply put two and two together. ("He likes Godfather books and he has a computer, surely he must enjoy this game.")

That's strange, i just went out of cover and got nailed, 1 shot by a shotgun.

So? looks a shitload better than it too "at times". Actually make that much of the demo.

Mafia 1 was "difficult" (lol?) becuase the baddies had the fucking accuracy of a terminator armed with a rail gun, in otherwords, they were cheating bastards.

Yea, you should proceed carefully, because you just came mighty close to unraveling your entire argument.

As for cheating enemies - Mafia2 demo had at least two of them. The Fat Guy and the guy with molotov coctails - bullets didn't hurt them at all until trigger allowed otherwise.

Fat dude ain't an enemy, he's a trigger.

You shot at arms, feet, heads and other assorted sticky-outy bits. Well, atleast for the fuckers that actually bothered to hide behind shit, most just ran straight out into your line of fire.

I never understood why ppl had so much problem with that racing level. I won the race on the third try or something, before the patch that made the race easier. And I never play racing games.

Up close maybe. I didn't get shot by a shotgun.

it doesn't tell you "where to turn when you're running from the cops"
It does. Before mission ends you just run away from cops with your magical GPS to that bridge. Cop AI being absolutely passive moron doesn't help the challenge here.

So? looks a shitload better than it too "at times". Actually make that much of the demo.
Still looks very outdated though.

Fat dude ain't an enemy, he's a trigger.
Actually the whole point of the mission is to kill him. If they put him in the level running away from me - why can't I kill him any time I want - like when I see him running away? Even GTA4 gave much more freedom with this.

You shot at arms, feet, heads and other assorted sticky-outy bits. Well, atleast for the fuckers that actually bothered to hide behind shit, most just ran straight out into your line of fire.
Can't see any popamole here. Compare to Mafia2 where they just pop their heads up from behind bullet-proof wooden boxes and tables so you could shoot them while being stickied to another bullet-proof wooden box.

I liked Mafia back in the day, the story was a take on Goodfellas but without the nuances, which made it oddly satisfying in a way (nuances in drama sometimes lessen impact, I think).

seems to be defending the game, I'd normally tend to trust him more than
ME14.jpg
, but unfortunately
pieterzx1xc1.jpg
probably has something inherently agaisnt
ME14.jpg
which is understandable but an invalid reason to start an argument, which makes this seem more like a bitch fight than anything else. Anyway, keep us posted, you lovely faggots

In what way, it's got all the latest new fangled tech bullshit and it has great character, car, item and gun models (and decent cut scenes from what little we've seen)

Textures are a little low res in places though. but it all seems to be normal mapped.

Probably the only decent physx implementation i've seen as well.

It's not just some kill mission though, it's plot development where one act leads into the next, precisely the thing that seperated mafia from shitty open world games like GTA?

It's all the same bullshit. You seem to take offense because can press a button to hug a wall. As for the actual shooting the guns are meaty enough to be fun, it's rare we get an accurate shotgun. It's got death animation as well...death animation! it's like a woke up one day and that shit just upped and dissapeared.

Shooting the breeze with skyway is a great hobby of mine. :horror:

I've seen a couple links to supposed demo timer removal methods. Not only do these often lead to viruses that will mess up your systems, removing the demo timer means you are stealing our game. If you post these, you will be banned.

Think of the devs at 2K Czech who have spent years slaving over this game and respect them. Don't remove the demo timer. The full game will be out in 14 days. Wait till then - it will be worth it. You will receive a fully finished game without any hacks (I guarantee the experience will be better) and you will be supporting the team you love so much, and the people who worked so hard to bring you Mafia II.

Also, you don't want to be banned.

Closed off map is enough of a limit already, I don't understand why they had to put in that time limit bullshit. Maybe so less people notice there's not much to do there?
