I got an email from that site Fig who thought I would be interested in Marauder. After having a brief look it actually sounds quite interesting. Although I didn't back it.

It's a multiplayer space combat game set in a 1990's retro future. You guys will probably rip it apart but I thought I'd at least mention it.

What ticked my interest was the immersive Realistic First-person Combat:

Equip infamous weaponry of the previous decade, ranging from world war 2 technology to modern equipment. We plan on delivering hundreds of weapons to buy, sell and modify. "Marauder" also utilizes tactical movement for a thrilling combat experience with the added risk/reward element of every player being a potential bounty, deep space is riddled with criminals, kill and collect for the most valuable contracts. But remember bullets are not the only danger in space, all players are provided an oxygen supply for every raid, so make sure after surviving a firefight you don't suffocate before you escape.

  • Tactical/hardcore
  • Realistic weapon handling
  • Realistic per body part health
  • Clean HUD

Uh, so this is Tarkov in space with WWII guns and flyable space ships? Dunnno man, the concept of space combat in which some players control the ship systems while others repair damage and engage in boarding action would be cool, but IMO this would be more suited for larger scale MP matches (something like Battlefront or even Squad), four men crews seem too small to make this work and looter shooter doesnt seem to be a right genre either. The fact that there are apparently just three people doing this doesnt inspire much confidence tbh.

I guess we will see, but I dont have much hope for this.

Sounds like Interstellar Marines. Hope they actually deliver a game instead of an alpha in early access after 10 years.

I am honestly surprised the devs managed to collect as much money ($177,027 at the time of this writting) as they did. I guess the game is gonna get released at the very least. Whether it will be good is another matter.

Nice to see Iron Storm IP being revived and send into space.
Hope Rebellion will keep their filthy hands off it so they won't turn it to shit like with World War Zero.

I hate games with a veneer of SPACE!, but there's 1g everywhere, and your ship moves in 2D only, and handles like a boat in the water.

1g everywhere? As far as I know, spaceships don't usually fall. The 2D thing is at least partially understandable: I've wrestled with 3D prototypes in the past, and well, the results aren't pretty: It's hard to see what's going on graphically, and people cope very poorly with non-graphicality because it requires them to process numbers and render in their heads. The boat thing I'm similarly divided on. Rocketships are obviously non-boatlike in their handling, but once you start throwing in the space magic required to make anything get anywhere on a reasonable timetable, who knows what might happen.

Not really a game I'd play endlessly but the idea has its charm. In fact I was on board more because of that idea than the gameplay itself. Retrofuturistic space combat is almost always great. I really wanted to see how they'll expand on the setting, what flavour text they'll provide. And judging by how they named their main factions I'm guessing they just won't.

I mean Central Empire is generic but okay, fine, cheers for the valknut. United-fucking-Allies and Kingdom Alliance? Really? Some nice worldbuilding goes a long way in giving depth to a game, even if it's just in naming conventions. On top of that it's cheap to do. This is just lazy.
