Grab the Codex by the pussy Strap Yourselves In
That is quite a beloved example when someone wants to show how the companions are the same person, but it's the worst possible example imo. At this point, it's a truth universally acknowledged that torture is kinda bad, so it's normal for the vaaaaaaast majority of people to be against it. And if someone is like "fuck yeah, I love torture!", It's a pretty good sign they are a deranged psycho that nobody should trust ever, not to mention in combat situations.
Careful. That's the kinda talk that gets you a spanking.

Come on now, there's plenty wrong with ME2 for you to cherry pick like this
Not really. Companions having the same opinion about everything is extremely fucking retarded. It's taken to the extreme at the end of the game where everyone approves of destroying the Collector base and disapproves of preserving it.

Don't get me wrong, the companions are toothless and same-y, but not because of the torture example ;d

Your ignore list.
Just ignore the usual Codex sperging and play the games.

The ME trilogy is the kind of game I replay every 2~3 years and enjoy. I like the shooting, I especially like the setting, and I like most of the characters. It still holds up graphically in my opinion and is very fluid to play.

Regarding whether to play the originals or the LE, here are some considerations:
  • ME1 is clunky and was clunky even at release. It did not age well because of that, and it also relied on an unreal engine 3 version that is somewhat hard to get stable today, mostly due to its audio engine. MEUITM applies fixes that help a lot, but it's not uncommon to have ME1 crash several times during a playthrough, and it's 99% of the time audio related, and it's Bioware's fault;
  • ME2 has a lot of bugs that were never fixed (remember floating in the air when getting close to certain geometry?), not even by mods;
  • ME3 DLC is a pain to get working, usually requiring save editors to unlock everything;
  • ME1, ME2, and ME3 with MEUITM + ALOT + ALOV can look amazing, and you can also force MSAA since these games are DX9;
  • LE1, LE2, and LE3 have butchered lighting at some locations. The community patches for LE2 and LE3 have fixed most of it, while LE1 has a dedicated mod called MELLO;
  • The modding community has shifted efforts for the Legendary Editions, mostly because they all now use the same engine, thus using the same modding tools. In fact, in this short period since the LE release, the modding scene for it is way ahead of the original games;
  • LE1 is the most different game, and it plays considerably better now than ME1;
  • LE2 and LE3 come with every piece of DLC ready to go and working out of the box;
  • The community patches for LE1, LE2 and LE3 fix a bunch of longstanding bugs that plagued the trilogy since 2007;
  • ALOV now uses the LE videos for the original games as well, alongside their own upscaling and 60FPS improvements.
While the LE changes some stuff, I would say it's worth it if you use mods. You can play the three games without serious issues and they work fine. ME3Tweaks makes it easy to install all the mods and it comes with the texture tool for installing ALOT, waaaaaaaaaaay better than that piece of shit MEUITM installer.

Some of the mods I consider important for LE:
  • The community patches for each game;
  • ALOT + ALOV;
  • Better Camera (LE1, LE2, and LE3). Let's you set the FOV. Also, this works way better than those FOV binds we had to use for the original games;
  • Charted Worlds (LE1). This one marks the location of mineral deposits and other points of interest on every planet;
  • Classic Heatsinks + Universal Thermal Clips (LE2 and LE3). This restores the same ammo system of Mass Effect 1 for the later games;
  • Expanded Galaxy Mod (LE3). Way too much to list here;
  • Galaxy Map Trackers (LE1). Marks active and undiscovered assignments on the galaxy map;
  • Miranda Butt Shot Restoration (LE2 and LE3). Undoes the Bioware faggotry of hiding Miranda's ass shots during conversation;
  • One Probe All Resources (LE2). Fuck the planetary scanning minigame;
  • Pinnacle Station DLC (LE1). Restores Pinnacle Station to LE1 since Bioware was too lazy to do it;
  • Skip Mini Games (LE1 and LE2). No more hacking and bypass minigames;
  • Take Earth Back (LE3). Goes alongside Expanded Galaxy to enhance the final mission;
  • Unlimited Sprint and Boost Duration (LE1, LE2, and LE3). Fixes Shepard morbid obesity, turning you into a soldier;
  • XP Rescale (LE1). Now you can achieve level 60 on a single playthrough.
There are other mods, but I would say these are the most relevant ones to make the LE worth playing.

A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Thanks for an informative post.

My takeaway is that I’ll probably just install the butt restoration mod, the other ones feel like merely cosmetic enhancements, less pertinent for a fulfilling gaming experience.

The community patches are a good idea too, they are just bug fixes.

Your message convinced me try again Mass Effect. I played just the first a decade ago (maybe).

I remember I liked the main quest/lot of side quests until a certain point, but then I got bored by the endless and always equal explorations of planets with the MAKO (or what it is called), especially when I was in search of resources.

Now I've started to play it again (ironmode) and the nice feelings are there: I made the first quest and I'm on the Citadel. I remembered dialogues to be good and the sensation is the same.

The atmosphere and the setting are something I really love, but I fear I will get stuck again in boredom because of the MAKO and the planet inspections.

Is there any possibility to go on with the main plot without using the MAKO too much? The LE has improved this part of the game?

I've seen that in the community patch there is something related to quest/marks on the planet.

There's only a couple of mandatory vehicle sections and they are mostly combat.

Thank you! My problem is that I'm a authistic-completitionist, that's why I usually talk to anyone/try to do everything and then get involved in looking on useless planets for resources I'll never use. I'll try to avoid it here.

MAKO controls were improved with the LE, so there's that. If you use the Charted Worlds mod then everything will be marked on every planet, so there's no need to waste countless hours finding stuff.

I recommend doing all MAKO planets because there's always something that is related to side-quests and even plot element you don't really remember. It can add to the world building and the story, even though it's mostly bits of content.

I haven't checked the latest versions of the community patch, but it's possible. The FOV mod is one case of a mod that is now part of the patches for the 3 games.

The only substantial side quest is the one that relates to a base on Earth's moon. It unlocks a subclass option.

That could be interesting but also "dangerous". I don't want to spoil everything as soon as I arrive on a planet. I will check the mod, anyway, thank you!

Thank you! But my authism-completitionism will win against my inner awareness that I CAN avoid boredom.

there was already a modded HD texture pack for Mass 1-3. releasing "remakes" of software that already works fine just so you can censor ass shots should be illegal

Technically there are 0 mandatory Mako sections in the game, even in main quests, because you can walk the whole way if you want. (Apart from Noveria, because you'll succumb to the elements). Your best bet, if those Mako sections bother you, is to just not explore randomly. Take the Mako sections in main quests, and then use it on uncharted worlds on side quests, side quests with a decent story and choice you'll pick up randomly on the Citadel + main quests.

I enjoyed it but I understand that was me turning off my brain, staring off into the distance/scenery (there's some amazing skyboxes) and chilling. The "exploration" aspect is terrible apart from 1 exception in which you use a trinket given to you be the Consort on the Citadel. Everything else is useless.

I can't be the only one that actually liked exploring worlds with the Mako :/
what's funny is i'm almost certain the negative response to the Mako is why Starfield had no vehicles, and the second it was gone, everybody wanted it back. gamers are psychopaths

There are no vehicles in Starfield because Bethesda is too incompetent to implement them into the game (and because players don't notice how small the maps are).

I don't like the mako section mainly because of two reasons, first driving mako is a huge pain in the ass, it sucks; second most of the planets has barely any content for you to actually explore. It feel like a after thought added just to make the galaxy feel larger. They probably ditch it in the sequels because it will be very resource comsuming to flash out the planet exploring and they simply don't have that kind of money.

They did improved both aspects in ME:A(though not by much).

Yes, that's it. I completely agree.

For me it was as much painful that I decided to quit the game
