I won't pay $50 plus for a digital game.

It's not even about that.

Between 184 hours of cutscenes, an absolute shit-tier ruleset, and an abundance of political agenda, I really don't know why you would want to play BG3. Turn-based? Yeah, no.

(coming from a massive ToEE/KoTC fag)

Pretty mediocre year as far as CRPGs go. Best game I played was actually a JRPG. Everything else was either an inferior copy of an older game that brought nothing new to the table, or a mild disappointment. The only one I’ve got hopes for is JA3, but I can’t run it.
If it was so good why are you afraid to name it?

I had just made a thread about it in the appropriate forum. It’s Anode Heart. Check it out, it’s good.
In any case, it’s beside the point because it wouldn’t qualify for the poll, my point was that even the best of CRPGs couldn’t match up to a JRPG because it was a pretty bland year.

If you replaced the story, the writing, the characters, the quests, the romances, the art style, and half the mechanics, BG3 is actually a pretty okay game.

:smug:
But even left as it is BG3 is better than your games

I was torn between writing something like "yeah my porn games are a real high bar for quality lol."

Then I thought about it some more and I concluded, yeah, pound for pound any of my games are better than BG3. Even that crappy 2 dollar walking sim that uses default rpgm graphics.

Not just qualitatively better either, they're not even in the same medium. My BG3 parody is going to be great.

Regular men merely complain about how bad BG3 is.

I'm gonna make money off it.

:excellent:

This is a true gentleman's response and I, for one, look forward to playing it

Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Has any codex goty result featured a oldfag vote percentage for each game? It would be nice to filter results to find some gems/ laugh at the decline.
Iirc someone did this once, the results were basically the same.
We did this in 2017 for the "Age of Incline" poll and it turned out that The Witcher 3 was even more popular among the older posters lol
Would it be an easy thing to add a member registration date to the excel table automatically? This question pops up every year, maybe if you could add it then people could filter by results their prefered join date.

Strap Yourselves In
Personal list, no attempt at objectivity:-

Solasta Palace of Ice 5
Colony Ship 4
WOTR Sarkorians 3
Phantom Liberty 4
BG3 4
Rogue Trader 3

Solasta POI may be just a quirk of mine, but I really enjoyed it, I just really love the flow of the Solasta gameplay. The others were pretty good, for varying reasons (Colony Ship: classic feel; Phantom Liberty: mostly fun CDPR fare; BG3: some notable reactivity, C&C and fun lite combat, despite shitty POC/alphabet shit, plus I'm a sad old graphics whore; Rogue Trader: buggy as hell, but I still enjoyed it quite a lot, setting is hard to beat; Sarkorians: almost quite good).

Is Baldur's Gate 3 actually bad gameplay-wise? I haven't paid any attention to it and only know about the bear memes.

Is it hated because it's mainstream? Because it's shallow/dumbed down? Because it has nothing to do with the first two? Because it's woke? Because it's not made in some former soviet shithole? All of the above?
No, it's not bad gameplay-wise; it's the best RPG ever made, non-ironically. It has the highest production value ever seen in every single aspect, with a lot of care in details and never-before-seen reactivity. The memes are about an infinitesimal small amount of content compared to what the game has to offer. The only real criticism is that it's indeed very woke; however, it never forces anything on you. Then you have the usual Codex schizos who will spam every thread about it. Now it's all fine as long as you are not about to spend money; but then if you are about to buy games , don't believe their lies and go for some garbage indie praised here.
It's hated because it's mainstream and successful, and it's an awesome success story, while many people here have very sad lives, and someone successful and hard worker like Sven is their antithesis.
I've not played it yet so can't judge, but that's some claim.

Am I going to play it, then over the course of the next 20-ish years replay it many times over with almost each replay being just as enjoyable as the first, only to reflect on it in 2050 and think "wow, not only did BG3 innovate and redefine the genre to a large degree with it's gameplay, but it's story actually predicted the future of mankind to a large degree, and served as a very real warning of what was to come!"?

Because that's the case with Deus Ex, and that's the level which a "best RPG ever" has to hit for that crown. And unless everyone all of a sudden starts fucking bears and surviving, then I can't see that being the case with BG3.

BG3 seems more of a Dragon Age: Origins level RPG; something which fans of it's style will love and which hits a spot at that moment in time, but which will also show it's age and drop off the radar notably once the hype has died down, and that same formula receives a better copycat. Something games like Deus Ex have yet to receive.

Infinitron where's the BG3 codex review?
Was there a volunteer to write it?
codex doesnt commision/seek volunteers. Its all about some rando on the forum having nothing better to do, writing one and sending to one of the moderators.

to all people(non potato people) who keep bringing it up or asking questions like 'why gorasul and not bg3?': go write one or provide incentive for someone else to do it.
Infi probably cant be bothered to reply to such statements anymore

Someone would have to be crazy to write that review, no matter what it'll say, at least half of Codex will want to kill the author.

you would find that few care about that.
Id expect that bigger issue is game not being complete. Larian got a history of increasing difficulty later on with their titles and looks like its in progress currently for bg3, with each patch bringing another unique boss fight. Content that interests most codexers very much. Also possibly doing both good&evil playthrough.
Then there might be unique issues to reviewer: if i were to give it my usual treatment it would mean writing a book. And id rather avoid that
EDIT: oh and there is an issue of timing. someone who would have time to finish bg3 and write a review also had time to play other games that got released back to back: colonoscopy, shipwreck, underrail dlc and possibly other. By the time such codexer were done its already december/january and honour mode gets dropped.

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Just make Bear Sex 3 the GOTY already - why going with all that trouble with a Poll.
its not about the goal, but the journey and friends enemies we make in this thread along the way
More like it's about the other high ranking games.
