Wrong. The trilogy structure and release of the lord of the rings was for economic reasons. It was the publisher that cut it up.Are Mass Effect and Blackguards' stories self-contained in the first games?
For example, The Lord of the Rings trilogy is very much that: a trilogy of films which are telling a continuous story. By comparison, can you play Mass Effect 1 and conclude a story, or are you expected to play all three games in a sort of "to be continued" ending? Same goes for Blackguards.
ME2, ME3 and Blackguards 2 seem to be pretty shit, but I'm a sucker for the whole "to be continued" thing.

For your own sake, please don't play Mass Effect. Just don't.
Don't do it bro, don't.I have to, it's in the Top 70.

You mean 60 hours of cutscenes.Don't do it bro, don't.I have to, it's in the Top 70.
I'll just play the first one, same with Blackguards. The pain will be gone in an instant.

Let's say that the three Mass Effect games tell the stories of 3 big battles. They are self-contained in a sense but you need to play all of them to see how the war ends.
OTOH the second one is the peak of the series (apart from the end boss) so if you try to shlog through the first one later, it will be unbearable. You might as well just play the 2nd one because it's better than the first which is an abomination.

That's true. ME 2 is a lot better. I haven't been able to tolerate watching or playing ME 1 but ME 2 is at least not so bad as to be offensive to watch. And the music is nice, which counts for a lot for me.

This, I think, was largely caused by Ultima VII being split into its two parts, and its votes being broken up. No excuse on Arx Fatalis though -- I assume there just aren't enough people who've played it and realize how awesome it was.Dragon Age higher than Ultima VII and Arx Fatalis?
Blackguards is self contained. Also don't believe the retarded reviews of BG2, it is just as good as the first game. I don't know about Mass Effect story, those games are for dude bro xbox teenagers. Are Mass Effect and Blackguards' stories self-contained in the first games?

I don't know, it's a series of films with lot of fantasy clichés: orcs, elves, dwarves, and wizards to name a few. A book with such content sounds incredibly unoriginal. For example, The Lord of the Rings trilogy is very much that: a trilogy of films which are telling a continuous story.
Someone should make a novelization of the movies.
