The general approach sounds very interesting. I like the idea of pausable real-time as well. Would I be right in thinking it's something like what Eschalon has?

Could you give an example dialog that modifies itself?

Have you looked at the Mount&Blade system of distribution (ie, selling a beta as shareware)? Since your system is dynamical or emergent and less top-down it would seem polishing will be more about small balance changes and fixes once the main engine is in depth. On the other hand Mount&Blade had a large potential target market (it's an action game), which Shelter may not.

Have you found any artists or is it still just the two of you?
