Not much to say about this, except that some of the city names are really fucking generic, if I'm reading them correctly, of course. Solitude? Winterhold? Whiterun?

:hmmm:

You sir are retarded.

How does that make me retarded? Ok, the city names were always cheesy. So? I never implied this was some major :decline: from past TES games.

Personally, Arena having been one of the very first cRPGs I played (which, I believe, is why I have some very fond memories of it), I almost feel compelled to give Skyrim a spin now. :?

You had 17 years to make this observation, so nope, you're still slow.

Seeing that Arena map made me remember what a bitch that Crypt of Hearts dungeon was.

Fucking endless hordes of stone golems. :x

Never played Arena and don't intend to (I'm guessing this too makes me a retard in your book), nor do I care for TES lore, so I had no way of knowing, really. You do sort of have a point, though, since I never did quite notice the cheesiness in other TES games, probably because I was too busy playing. Whereas in this thread, the location names were really the only thing of interest.

I must say though, looking at that map now, Skyrim does have some of the worst city names. Morrowind and Summerset Isle are also pretty bad.

well there is a little cross right about where Labyrinthian should be on the Skyrim map.

but i already know i will be disappointed with the size of the land, nothing will be as in the lore.

Look bit to cramped,

Imo they should just generate a big wilderness ad then add points of interest and interesting landmarks, im not really fan of "awesum stuff every coner" bethpizdian philosophy

Arena's dungeons became a piece of cake as soon as you gained the capability to cast the dissolve wall spell (or whatever you name it). I used to cast that spell, rest, and repeat until I got to the room where the spear part was.

It's an incline over the completely useless Oblivion map. For example I can see some little X marks on it like the Morrowind map, which will no doubt be hidden treasures and shit. And it's marking temples or whatever those little huts are. Still not as ridiculously detailed as the Morrowind map though, not listing every little settlement and most/many caves/mines/ruins.

So unless the X marked treasures are really memorable, this will be functionally as useless as the Oblivion map. Hell, even with Morrowind detail it probably would be anyway due to quest compass.

Not really, I haven't really played it myself, at least not longer than several minutes to half an hour, but it isn't a valid excuse.
