I'd like to give myself something to look forward to. I've been playing actual turnbased games like ToEE and KoC lately, and have been craving more to play later. What does the codex recommend?

Fiat Turn Based Strategy as well

(For those of you wondering what the hell fiat means, it's the latin word for Let There Be, or Let it Be Known. )

Aeroplanes are cool when they take off, all the rumbling and acceleration feels good.

I don't know if you've played it before, but as mentioned above JA2 is a must for turn-based lovers, one of the best combat systems out there. Personally I'd play the original for a few towns, and then install that 1.13 mod. It makes the game have some more cool options, and works with a neat backpack system for inventory. I thought it just refined the experience.

So, what you really are asking is, what game would you like to play just before you die crashing down.. maybe something like Battle for Wesnoth ?

The Panzer General series is good for trips. PG2 and People's General are probably the best of the lot, but all are pretty decent. Check out Fantasy General and Rites of War (Warhammer) if you want something less earthly.

Simply put the Heroes of Might and Magic games are great for long trips in airplanes. They are a shit ton of fun but at the same time aren't so involved that you'll really feel the urge to tell the flight attendants to fuck off when they ask you disembark.

It's also an English word with a slightly different meaning.

The Gold Box games.

I tried to play pools of radiance. Rage quit when after much trouble (no god damn mouse) I targeted a sleep spell, and did not know whether it worked or not. The game does not give feedback on damage, rolls, etc.

Also, is it too popamole of me to want mouse support? Hell, fuck mouse support, just a decent interface would do.

I don't even mind the graphics, but...

To OP, if you did not play it yet, JA2. Get 1.13 too, if possible.

You'll know it worked if some sparkles appear on the target. It has an area of 1 square in all directions around the target square.

The game does not give feedback on damage, rolls, etc.

It does, in the right "window", you probably set the speed too fast and need to set DOSBox correctly if you haven't seen it. It should work quite well if you set the cycles to auto.

Considering I was flying out of an Indian airport, on an Indian airline, I doubt that would have be a good idea, porn, at least non-softcore, is illegal in India. Primary reason I didn't update my LP this past month or so.

Anyway, sitting at the airport waiting for the next flight to start to taxi, I've got another 8 hours of flying to look forward to

Played KotC and JA2 on the first 10 hours of multiple flights home, gonna look at getting Imperialism once I land in LA, because I actually liked Victoria 1/2.

Patrician III, quite varied and with many interesting twists.
Europa Universalis too only reading the manual will take you good part of the flight.
