I haven't played starcraft2, I have no desire to play it and something tells me I won't lost much because of this.

so what are the best mods for SC1 there? not the mods that are total conversions but rather the mods that enhance gameplay, change the balance to be better, changes AI, adds something nice to gameplay with AI etc?

and btw, Happy New Year.

There's probably a good AI mod, but why would you want to change Starcraft gameplay?

What people use when playing Starcraft is something called Brood War Launcher but it's mostly a utility for making recordings and replays.

Most "mods" I know of consist entirely of map editing software to make it easier to make more complicated maps.

because I want to add something fresh to it. yes I know that some mods may mess up SC gameplay - but I'm asking for some that are making it more interesting - sure there are some of these?

There's one that crappifies the graphcis so that it looks like Warcraft 3.

Uhuh, why anyone would intentionally want the game to look like the abomination that is W3 is beyond me.

Speaking of Warcraft3, does anyone know if Heroes of M&M 5 is using the same engine? The games look annoyingly similar.

Most SC mod i've seen have been ones that replace the sprites/sounds for shitty anime inspired crap.. SC was never really mod friendly, beyond mapping.

Project: Revolution is prob worth a shot, if you have WC3, it's a SC TC for Warcraft 3 that looked pretty cool last time I checked (ages ago).

I would say no, but if I'm wrong someone will correct me.

The reason the games look similar is that they are done in KEWL3D. Since I have hated every Blizzard game I have ever bought I didn't bother with Warcraft 3.

However, for HOMM5 the KEWL3D is annoying. They obscure loot sitting around, they make the town screens take a few seconds to load up, and the underground sections require you to rotate the camera angle every few seconds.

WHY do companies insist on using KEWL3D when it actively gets in the way of playing the fucking game?

Patches changed the balance for better, that is the only way on how SC can be popular today unbalanced game would die fast in mp. You can try ums on bn that is more of a small games rather then conversions.

HoMM5 and Warcraft 3 don't fucking look ANYTHING similer.

However, HoMM5's camera was horrible and turned what would've been a pretty fun game into a shitbomb.
