"This message is awaiting moderator approval": All new users must pass through our moderation queue before they will be able to post normally. Until your account has "passed" your posts will only be visible to yourself (and moderators) until they are approved. Give us a week to get around to approving / deleting / ignoring your mundane opinion on crap before hassling us about it. Once you have passed the moderation period (think of it as a test), you will be able to post normally, just like all the other retards.

The admins need to take a stance on whether or not they are going to sell our data to our AI overlords.

They totally should sell it.

Reddit is doing it.

Didn't some of those LLMs get racist when fed certain inputs? Imagine what would happen if they'd get access to the Politics forum.

Codex should invest into making its own AI chatbot based on posts in GD.

We all know what will be the end result.

Explain to the RPGCodex forum why they should sell the forum data to OpenAI.

ChatGPT
Addressing the RPGCodex community about selling forum data to an entity like OpenAI requires a careful consideration of both the community's values and the potential benefits and concerns such a decision might entail. It's important to approach this with transparency, respect for privacy, and an understanding of what RPGCodex stands for. Here's a tailored argument that could be presented:

Dear RPGCodex Community,

As we stand at the crossroads of technological advancement and digital community engagement, a unique opportunity has presented itself. OpenAI, a leading entity in the field of artificial intelligence, has expressed interest in acquiring forum data to enhance its language models. While the initial reaction might be one of skepticism or concern, we believe there are compelling reasons to consider this proposal seriously.

Enhancing AI Understanding and Interaction with Niche Communities:

Rich Data for Nuanced AI: RPGCodex's extensive discussions on role-playing games, including insights, critiques, and in-depth analysis, can significantly contribute to making AI models more nuanced and understanding of specialized communities. This isn't just about teaching AI what an RPG is, but imbuing it with the depth of knowledge and passion that exists within our forums.

Better Tools and Games: By understanding the intricacies of RPGs and the gaming community's expectations, AI can assist in creating better tools for game development, narrative generation, and perhaps even contribute to designing games that align more closely with what hardcore fans appreciate.

Community Benefits and Opportunities:

Investment in the Community: Proceeds from such a data sale could be reinvested into the RPGCodex community. This could mean better server infrastructure, enhanced forum features, or funding community events and contests. It's an opportunity to solidify and expand our community, ensuring its longevity and vibrancy.

Privacy and Ethical Considerations: It's paramount to approach this with the utmost respect for individual privacy and ethical standards. Any data sharing would involve anonymizing user information to protect identities and personal information. OpenAI has shown a commitment to ethical AI development, and negotiations would include strict terms to ensure data is used responsibly and ethically.

Setting Precedents for Community Engagement: By participating in this initiative, RPGCodex can set a standard for how niche communities can engage with technological entities in a way that benefits both parties. It offers a model for future interactions that prioritize community integrity, privacy, and mutual benefit.

Addressing Concerns and Open Dialogue:

We understand that such a proposal might raise concerns among our members. The essence of RPGCodex is not just in the content but in the community spirit, independence, and the shared passion for role-playing games. Any decision will be made with full transparency and community consultation. This is an opportunity for an open dialogue about our future and how we can leverage technological advancements while staying true to our core values.

Before any decision is made, we want to hear from you. Your feedback, concerns, and suggestions are vital. Let's discuss how we can embrace the future without compromising what makes RPGCodex unique.

This approach ensures that the conversation is grounded in the community's values, addresses potential benefits, and openly acknowledges concerns, fostering a transparent and inclusive dialogue.

If this doesn't convince you, nothing will.

Very optimistic of you to believe that all public codex posts haven't already been scraped and included in training data.

Scraped yes, but maybe not included in training data.

One goal with AI is for tech companies is to manufacture consent through their allegedly omniscient AI, which they will of course control in the background. But first the AI's training data must be curated, so that no unwanted opinions seep in; and the easiest way to do so is by only including data from already curated sources, like Reddit. The politically incorrect opinions on the RPGCodex are not wanted.

I suppose they could also add bias to the AI later, even if it had access to uncensored training data. I'm sure that approach becomes necessary whenever the tech companies need to make a U-turn in some political issue, and there's no way they can quickly purge the entire Reddit from the previously allowed opinion and retrain the AI.

Clearly RPGCodex needs its own AI as well.

Only if you want to irreparably corrupt the AI and train it to output nothing but endless trash.
