We'd be complete douchebags if we didn't at least mention the release of <b><a href="http://www.psytronik.com/main/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=73:realms-of-quest-trilogy-vic-20&catid=36:vic-20&Itemid=59" target="blank">Realms of Quest III</a></b>, the fruit of many hours of obsessive labor from <a href="http://www.rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=32609&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0" target="blank">one of the locals</a> around here.

I will probably end up downloading it. I have been looking for a VIC-20 that also includes the RAM upgrade, but no dice yet. I have been looking forward to this one, and I don't think I can hold off much longer.

Hopefully, the enhanced C-64 version will one day be released (hint, hint).

finding a VIC20 and a VIC-1110 8K RAM cart cant be that difficult in the US, right? i own 2 VIC20's (had 4 before) but then it is the PAL version.

I'm the author of Realms III and I'm humbled that RPG Codex would showcase the game on their front page.

If you haven't seen it yet, you can see how the game looks like here on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DMBlCaDlD8

You need either 32K to play the full version, or 16K (a more common form of memory expansion) to play the DUNJON CRAWLER edition.

There are 32K cartridges available, most notably the Mega-Cart.

As for making a Commodore 64 version? Well, the reason why I made a VIC-20 version was that there aren't many RPGs that were made for the machine. If I had made this for the C64, I'd be competing with the hundreds of RPGs that are easily downloadable for it.

I am sure they are quite easy to get in the US. Unfortunately, I use PAL as well and don't live in the US.

Yes, but I have already played all of those (at least all the RPG's I ever wanted to play for the C64), so RoQ3 would be a new game to me. And in any case, you are getting closer to the 64k of the C64 rather than the 5k of the VIC, just a little further now...

I'd download it, but I don't think I can fit it under my 150GB download cap.
How exactly do you overrun a 150 GB download cap? Do you buy a new hard drive every other month or something?

Realms of Quest III is finally available! You can order it here:

Premium Edition: http://www.binaryzone.org/retrostore/in ... cts_id=510

Budget Edition: http://www.binaryzone.org/retrostore/in ... cts_id=511

(premium means you get a plastic jewel case + 36 page manual, budget is disk-only)

-----------------------------------------------

It was in February of 2009 (this year) that I had announced that I would be making DUNJON III. After a couple of weeks, I decided that this project would instead become REALMS OF QUEST III.

I posted on the VIC-20 Denial forum ( http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bul ... php?t=3368 ) what was on my mind at the time as I was making this game. There were some setbacks but it was always 3 steps forward with the occasional step back.

(clockwise from upper-left: first mockup "proof of concept" for Dunjon III which would later evolve into Realms of Quest III, party menu graphic, saehn's magnificient splash screen for the intro, and the party traveling on the surface map)

(the above are saehn's enhanced graphics that are included in the commercial release)

(all of my spare time spent on this was not in vain as the above illustrates).

Again, a big kudos to saehn and darkatx (and of course, Kenz the publisher) for their magnificent art.

Would you believe that I originally conceived that it would take me 2 years to finish this project? At the time I started this project, I only had a bare minimum knowledge of 6502 assembly language.

I hope that those who order it get some entertainment out of it. If you'd like a sampler of what this game is like, you can also try the freeware version available here: http://www.psytronik.com/main/index.php ... &Itemid=56
