FNV itself wasn't too deep
On its own no, it wasn't, but by vidya standards it most certainly was. Which is why you still get autismos discussing the factions and politics a decade later.
For which there is no need, clearly the Legion is the only logical and ultimately moral choice.

Heretic. New Vegas was a fantastic game back then and even today when compared to the Outer Worlds and other such attempts.
Moral? What in the actual fuck? Slavers and rapists are moral? Killing and assimilating a culture and erasing its history is moral?. In all my playthroughs I allied with the Legion once and I felt disgusted the whole way through. And it also has no future. Caesar dies, they cannibalize each other.
Mr. House is the only objective and rational choice. And the best one if the Mojave hopes for any kind of future at all. And the man predicted, prepared and saved the city by intercepting incoming nuclear warheads and using his genius to remotely disarm some of them while using his own AA artillery on top of the casino to shoot down the rockets. Sure, some still got through but only in the surroundings, saving most of the Mojave. The guy has plans, resources, an army of robots, ambition and a way forward for humanity.

House is a pure Randian power fantasy that has never and will never work out. He's gonna fuck off and colonize space, leaving the rest of humanity on earth to eat shit and die. His plan serves only him self at the end of the day.
You know, the whole Caesar dying thing and the Legion falling apart is the wishful thinking of those who are scared shitless by the Legion, or those disillusioned with it. When Julius died, Mark Anthony took over, and Anthony is comparable to, or even worse than Lanius, so who's to say the Legion won't have its own Augustus? Ultimately there's no way of knowing.
Compared to the self-interested science boy, and the bureaucratic, decadent and corrupt society of NCR, the Legion is the only clear choice that will bring order back to the wasteland. Some slaves and some crucified degenerates are a price well worth paying for that order.

Bullshit of the highest degree. But then again what should I expect of some slaver fanboy? Those historical figures you mentioned were part of an empire and believed in something and they had culture and identity. The Legion in NV is a mockery of that, a bad joke, a fag orgy of sad sacks of shit, monkeys in football gear pretending to be something they're not and will never be, saying they refuse technology but they have an infinite supply of stealth boys, use guns and energy weapons. That's how far and easily their ideology or whatever shit they ingest lasts and breaks apart.
Meanwhile, House proved his superior, godlike intelect. As long as the Courier is around, humanity won't suffer or be left behind, it will only thrive. And ultimately, if the world is composed of slavers and their fanclub, of corrupt assholes, raiders, junkies, whores and monstrous creatures that threaten humanity with extinction if left unchecked and more things out there that we don't know about, born in the fires of radiation, if that's what's left of mankind, then absolutely nothing of value will have been lost in the eventuality of leaving the planet.

That's simply not true though. With the destruction of the assimilated tribe's previous identity, and their own willingness to accept the Legion identity even if it's forced upon them, and out of a sense of self-preservation, you might expect that this leads to a flimsy allegiance to the Legion, but in actuality it can make them more fanatical about their new identity than their old one. They've already lost everything of their former life, the Legion now is literally all they have. Talk to the legionaries in-game, their morale is high, their resolution absolute. Compare them to the bumble fuck farmer boy from California who got sent out to Nevada, for reasons unknown to him, to fight an enemy that doesn't directly threaten California. All while experiencing the various logistical, bureaucratic and NCR incompetence issues. Hanlon himself admits that even if they somehow manage to win against the Legion, which isn't likely, Hoover Dam and Nevada will still be the death of them.
Meanwhile, House proved his superior, godlike intelect.
The guy got cucked by a converted tribal dude. Fucking BENNY stole his chip. And House has to find an outside contractor to get it back for him because his own position is fairly flimsy with the NV casino factions just waiting to stab him in the back.

That's not all that's left of humanity in Fallout and you know it. House is a coward, as is anyone who follows him. Only the Legion can save what's left.

House has self-interest as his primary motivation, sure. But he also doesn't seem interested in enslaving people, exactly. He's not cruel, he's just ruthless. He needs people in order to achieve his goals, and he understands that people need relative freedom in order to be happy. He's not a perfect solution, but no such thing exists in the Mojave.

That morale will fade away, it won't last. The whole construct is volatile. I compare them to a Securitron. And NCR is just as bad as the Legion.
As for House, yeah he needs external help. And the courier is more than enough to do that. Benny stole the chip because he wanted to do a power move on House, another moron thinking he knows what's what. House couldn't have foreseen that, he can't plan for human nature. He thought, rationally, that these idiots value money and expected them to honor their contract. Pearls before the swine. He thought they were above animal level intelect. He was wrong.
The courier was also under contractual obligations to recover and return the chip and to exact his own revenge on Benny. Benny was fucked. Benny was not a threat, only an annoyance and a setback.
What's admirable in all of this is House's foresight, intelligence, plans, ambition, preparedness. Sure he couldn't account for anything, there's always an "unplanned variable" and while his now physical limitations are what they are, that doesn't diminish or invalidate his genius and the plans he has. At least he has a vision, ways to achieve that vision and a means to do that in the courier and the Securitron army.
What does the Legion have? A roar and a bloodlust. Conquerors. How well did that go for various tryhards in human history? Don't try to humanize barbarians, they're just organized raiders.

Fairly excellent at times, depending on the tryhards.

Caesar managed to create the Legion starting with one tribe of savage retards. House is still coasting along from the base he constructed in the old civilization, and hasn't really done much with it in 200 years. If anything Caesar beats him in everything you've listed.
he can't plan for human nature
Can he not? Comes down to it people are fairly predictable. And he did actually account for it, which is why he hired 6 couriers to transport 6 different items. Instead of just having a bunch of securitons do it for him. Or having those same securitons recover it once he knew Benny had the chip. For a smart guy House is kind of dumb, and also a pussy.

Arguably it's House's increasing reliance on computers - prediction models, calculations, etc - that makes him more and more unable to predict the stupidity of his underlings. Benny's betrayal seems obvious to the player, but to a computer his actions are irrational at best.

He manipulated them, saw them for what they were and exploited them. What he knew of the Roman Empire never shared with anyone. And House didn't do anything for 200 years because he was busy trying to stay alive amidst various bugs and glitches and power outages his systems experienced. Caesar is an accident of history, a psychopath, a mass murderer and a serial killer, an offsping of war, shaming his origins as a Follower. No wonder he got so well with savages and animals. They're alike.
And he did actually account for it, which is why he hired 6 couriers to transport 6 different items.
To try to mask which was the real package as not to draw attention to it. He assumed things might go wrong.
and also a pussy.
And you expected him to do what? To get off the couch and go after Benny? The guy is almost decomposing after being alive for 200 years. Let's see you moving after you live for that long.
Or having those same securitons recover it once he knew Benny had the chip.
You can ask him that and his response is: Frontal assaults on casinos? Not good for business. In any case, Benny would see it coming. And all he'd have to do is hold the Chip up and point a pistol at it. Our foremost advantage is that Benny doesn't know that I know he has the Chip - let's not squander it.

Like I said, a pussy. Benny's not gonna throw his life away for the chip, just fucking call his bluff. I get a lot of the characterization of House is the way it is because the courier has to be involved somehow, but it's still retarded.

He has an army of securitrons. Even without the upgrade they should be enough to deal with any or all of the NV families. And that's another thing, why the fuck would you even bring a bunch of tribals into New Vegas? You already have your robots, just selectively open up the gates and get fucking employees that don't have long standing ties to each other that can one day turn against you...

Yes, shame on Caesar for trying to reestablish civilization. He should have asked all the tribes to stop being savages nicely, I'm sure that would have worked.

From the wiki:
Before the Great War started, Mr. House used his considerable genius and wealth to ensure that no missiles would strike the city of Las Vegas. Though a few warheads did get through in the outskirts, most of the city was spared. Despite this, the Strip itself was not re-settled, and after close to two hundred years, Mr. House immediately began searching for a mysterious Platinum chip, and rebuilding the glory of Las Vegas. Sending out Securitron scouts, Mr. House started negotiating with local tribes, specifically the Slither Kin, Mojave Boot-Riders, and a unnamed tribe of cannibals to exchange his considerable resource stockpiles for their help. Some of the tribes resisted, but these three tribes eventually gained Mr. House’s favor. They became the Omertas, Chairmen, and White Glove Society, running the Gomorrah, Tops, and Ultra-Luxe casinos, respectively. Because Mr. House was dedicated to restoring Las Vegas, he insisted on transforming the tribes into families with cultures that harkened back to Vegas’ glory days.

In the process of rebuilding the Strip, Mr. House also effectively “bought out” the residents of Vault 21. After they evacuated, he had the Vault stripped of useful technology, most of its actual volume filled with concrete, and the entrance turned into a gift shop and small hotel. While the families were rebuilding the casinos, the rest of the locals were hard at work erecting an enormous wall around the Strip. When NCR traders and explorers arrived on the scene, they were amazed at the Strip and returned back to California with tales of opulence and great wealth awaiting travelers.

Eventually, the NCR military itself arrived and were surprised to find the Strip so well-protected and heavily policed. Though they struck a deal with Mr. House to establish a base in the area (along with control of Hoover Dam), the NCR has never had control of The Strip. After the First Battle of Hoover Dam, the NCR negotiated an military police presence and embassy on The Strip, but their influence remains small.

Though the tribes that became The Strip’s families were once hatefully opposed to each other, the demands of Mr. House have forced the families to play nice. They continue to hold long-standing grudges, but do not act openly against each other for fear of angering Mr. House.[1]

Benny's not gonna throw his life away for the chip
He already did when he stole the chip. He knew the consequences. There was no going back. All the other tribes fear House, only Benny pulled this shit off, by himself. When you expose him to the other guys in the casino, they help you take him down. There was no going back.
the courier has to be involved somehow
The courier is involved by default, being shot in the head, surviving, hunting Benny, getting the Chip back, he already is or becomes an agent of change in the Mojave, attracting the attention of other factions trying to recruit him.
just fucking call his bluff

Uh-huh, in a world where tribes and raiders slaughter each other and anyone else at a whim, a bunch of pacifist science fags are gonna reestablish civilization without resorting to violence. Sure bud. You are half right though, Edward Sallow did start off as a Follower after all.

Again, he didn't need tribals. Not only did he invite literal savages, including cannibals, into New Vegas, he fucking gave them a pretty wide degree of autonomy. Imagine some former tribesman trying to fuck over Caesar, a crucifixion would be the best result he could hope for. I guess you could explain this away with House being an autistic, science smart, not people smart kinda guy, but it's still pretty fucking retarded.

If you're trying to argue for House, you're not doing it right. Benny doing it alone makes it worse, not better. And Benny wasn't destroying the chip in any case. If he made it clear that his only options are turning over the chip or dying, which one do you think he would have chosen?

I meant involved in retrieving the chip. House not doing it either with securitrons, Chairmen, Omertas or White Gloves is pretty retarded.

Oh okay, so you're one of those "I am very smart" people. That's kinda cringey bro.

Infinitron Dude I was having so much fun turning the TOW thread into an NV one. Why do you have to be such a Jew?

I agree it's pretty weak but he kinda had to get some people to populate the city and spread the word out so that other, more wealthy citizens can come and spend their fortunes at the casinos. He also made a deal with the NCR as well, for caps.

The followers only need protection from the other tribals. Protection can come from securitrons, NCR, bodyguards etc. At least they try to heal and spread knowledge and help however they can. Caesar was the odd one out. He was always a savage at heart.
Benny doing it alone makes it worse, not better.
How does it make it worse? He acted alone, none of the tribes supported him, not even his own guys. He also betrayed the Khans in Boulder City hoping they would be killed by NCR not taking into consideration that they might survive and come after him. The guy didn't think this through 100%.
And Benny wasn't destroying the chip in any case.
That's speculation. In game, House chose not to take a chance with that, preferred discretion instead of open warfare.

I think there's a dialogue where it says something about the range that the casino was transmitting to the securitrons and that the upgrade from the chip improved the range, among others. The farther away they were, the more scrambled it was or something like that, I don't remember every piece of dialogue in the game. And after what Benny pulled off, he wasn't going to try and hire another tribe or family to send after him.
That's kinda cringey bro.
Hm, kinda is isn't it, when you put it like that.

Looks like he needs better modeling. I wonder if he could run experiments on isolated groups of people over long time periods to better understand human behavior.

I see one big difference between the Roman Empire and the Legion: The Roman Empire promised a better Life for the "Tribals". Their Cities were far more advanced; they had stuff like sewers, central Heating, aqueducts, Windows made of Glass - you don't had to fear to die because of a bad Harvest, or a Raid... the Legion just gives you the Choice to serve or die, with the Possibility to get Loot and Slaves. I could support a Roman Empire reloaded, I can't support the Legion.

Isn't that exactly what Edward Sallow did/does?

Cause all it took for House's plan to fall apart is one underling acting alone without support from anyone apart from two Great Khans. Fucking hilarious when you think about it.
That's speculation. In game, House chose not to take a chance with that, preferred discretion instead of open warfare.
So is the Legion falling apart after Caesar's death. House could have ordered some Chairmen to grab Benny and torture the info about the chip out of him. The fact that he "needs" the courier to get it back and the reasoning for it is frankly fairly weak writing, but like I said, it still makes House look retarded.

That's fair enough.

The Legion promises order, which is what the wasteland needs more than anything. In a setting like Fallout you can't just have a comfy, better life. But that's what the Legion is doing, building the road towards that better life. And frankly it's the only faction in the Fallout universe that wants to do it, and is getting the job done.
The NCR can't even deal with the raiders in their own territory and a bunch of chemed out raiders near NV.
House doesn't even intend to try.

In the Legion ending, Caesar kicks them out of NV and if he's dead, Lanius hunts them down and burns the Mormon Fort. Hardly what I'd call protection. Legion only offers protection to traders and some couriers and that only because some of them might be assassins in the service of the Legion. Anyone else who is not deemed fit as a slave or warrior is killed. Kinda like Islam today, killing anyone that's not them.

Any plan has variables that can cause the whole thing to not go as expected. It's important to be able to get the situation under control before it gets even more derailed. I can see the funny part of it but I don't think it's enough to prove anything.
House could have ordered some Chairmen to grab Benny and torture the info about the chip out of him.
Why? A tribal betrayed him, why would he hire more tribals to go after him? He probably assumed they were all against him.
The fact that he "needs" the courier to get it back and the reasoning for it is frankly fairly weak writing
If you want to over simplify it, every protagonist falls into the "chosen one" category. I assume there are games out there where you can play as an NPC. I don't think they're very fun.
it still makes House look retarded.
No. If he believed that the other families were against them, picking the courier was the best choice.
House doesn't even intend to try.
He wants to go to space to find a new home. Such a bad person.

So they made a whole faction based on a casino joke about how you can't beat the House.

It's human nature bro, if you had a problem with someone and they were like "I don't wanna fight", that just kinda makes you wanna hurt them even more. But Caesar is obviously a benevolent tyrant as he lets the pacifists run away. Islam, like the Legion, is based and redpilled.
Any plan has variables that can cause the whole thing to not go as expected. It's important to be able to get the situation under control before it gets even more derailed. I can see the funny part of it but I don't think it's enough to prove anything.
God tier intellect House fails to anticipate Benny fucking him over, is unable to retrieve the chip from Benny, and has to sit with a thumb up his ass until the Courier arrives. And this is the fucking guy you think is the best option?
Why? A tribal betrayed him, why would he hire more tribals to go after him? He probably assumed they were all against him.
Again, why the fuck would he hire tribals in the first place? There are other people in Nevada. Smart boy ain't all that smart.
No. If he believed that the other families were against them, picking the courier was the best choice.
The person he never met, whom he doesn't know, who failed at bringing the chip to him in the first place, is the best choice? And the Courier can still choose to fuck House over. You want the job done, send in the unquestioning securitron. Again, I get its the overall plot and player C&C that forces this, but it still very much makes House look retarded. Securitrons can't retrieve the chip when it was lost cause the signal gets fucked up the farther away they are? Fine. Them not being able to retrieve it when it's in New Vegas just makes House look bad.
He wants to go to space to find a new home. Such a bad person.
While leaving the vast majority of the population behind in the hellish, radioactive, lawless wasteland... and somehow Caesar is the bad guy. That's the kind of reasoning you'd see from any self-interested, psychopathic CEO of today.

Easily he's the best option. He doesn't control everything, he's not some kind of MCU reality altering tier space mutant or some such. He's a genius who predicted the war, prepared to the best of his ability, actually defended the city with his own systems and after that his plan gets screwed considering it's the post apocalypse and things don't exactly work the same way they did before this whole circus happened. Who woulda thunk?
There are other people in Nevada.
Where are they? Who is the best candidate? Soon after the bombs dropped.
The person he never met, whom he doesn't know, who failed at bringing the chip to him in the first place, is the best choice?
Failed because he was ambushed not because of incompetence.

Maybe because a small force of robots would have attracted the attention of various factions, raiders, mutants, mutated creatures, gangs etc. and all of these may have been able to destroy them. Considering that House doesn't have access yet to a large army of securitrons and that they are not upgraded to the new OS.

I don't think it's his job to save the population. And hellish, radioactive, lawless are very good reasons to nope the fuck out of something. And besides, his goal of reaching space will also kickstart the various industries, advancing technology, improving the area and the general quality of life of the populace, increased commerce etc. The Legion is seen as the only way for humanity to survive, according to Caesar, but history shows that this is not the only type of functioning and thriving society. Dictatorships are not the rule. They're the exception and even in harsh conditions it's debatable. Goodsprings is an example of a small town surviving just fine in the wastes while doing trade with other communities. At least after the Powder Ganger problem is resolved.

It's really not though. If you were living in a Fallout like setting surrounded by tribals, raiders, cannibals and deathclaws you'd jump at the chance to join a Legion like faction, assuming they'd have you.
At least after the Powder Ganger problem is resolved.
A Powder Ganger problem would never spring up in Legion lands, they'd all be crucified for crime.
Easily he's the best option.
Okay, how can he be the best option when he's willing to leave everyone outside NV and its surroundings to their fate?

I agree, it's his job to save himself. Best option indeed. Meanwhile the Legion has brought order to, not one city, but the entirety of Arizona. And all of that in the fraction of the time it took House to wake up from his coma and wait around for the courier.
From the wiki
The brutality of the Legion is a major problem for many, but it also brings benefits. Arizona was once a lawless wasteland where crossing two miles without a clash with raiders was a major feat. The Legion brought peace and quiet to the entire state by exterminating and enslaving the raider tribes.[9]
