w00t!I think Zork was appealing because in many ways it felt like a fantasy role-playing game. There was magic, treasure to be found, monsters, and of course a sprawling dungeonesque environment. Yeah, your character didn’t possess stats, nor did you level up, but so what? You were playing a role—the curious adventurer. Why does everyone insist that in order to be considered a role-playing game you need volumes of numbers, and experience points, and so on…they’re called role-playing games, not number-crunching-analytic-games!
