Well, I'm back @ LPing and that means a new update!

dosbox2010071620483156.jpg

This is our new BS, obviously. Alliance is trying to hold against attacking monsters.

dosbox2010071620490235.jpg

Our experienced commandos now leads Lightbane! Welcome and good luck!

dosbox2010071620563828.jpg

Some new units to buy, including an artillery and real tanks, not those 'i haz a turret' cars, i immediately bought one of each tanks and upgrading one of our m106s to that artillery. Also bought new AA gun that finally looked at least little useful...

dosbox2010071620564270.jpg

And right after that jumped on a mission. Looks like some swamps.

dosbox2010071621010818.jpg

dosbox2010071621035250.jpg

dosbox2010071621075768.jpg

Default opening here. Leveled TAM was finally quite effective against enemy heavy units.

dosbox2010071621125962.jpg

This map was heavily covered with trees, making quite a narrow snake-like passage for vehicles. Small attack force tried to catch me undefended but it wasn't strong enough.

dosbox2010071621162814.jpg

dosbox2010071622472059.jpg

With infantry taking shortcut and some scout gargoyles taken out, our army reached next crossing where was prepared an ambush. Dark elves are weak in open battle, however.

dosbox2010071622550810.jpg

dosbox2010071622561414.jpg

Progress was quite slow but at least enemy wasn't doing anything.

dosbox2010071623182700.jpg

After Gondolin spotted a large force on the east, it was time to dig in and lure them.

dosbox2010071623210884.jpg

This one was quite easy, however, there was another army coming from north.

dosbox2010071623233190.jpg

dosbox2010071623270993.jpg

dosbox2010071623300242.jpg

dosbox2010071623321054.jpg

Fortunately, that bridge made stuff a lot easier.

dosbox2010071711143279.jpg

Anyway, finally our first tank officer, DramaticPopcorn and his M1 Abrams. Lacking experience, he will catch up quickly for sure. Good luck!

dosbox2010071712030975.jpg

After few enemy attacks, which weren't hard even in small numbers thanks to well placed hill, it was time to conquer.

dosbox2010071811205278.jpg

Bald description. Let's see...

dosbox2010071811402440.jpg

dosbox2010071811372298.jpg

Well, simple layout. River in the middle, 2 bridges, 1 wade so blowing bridges seemed like a good idea.

dosbox2010071811415432.jpg

And then facing quite a lot of enemy units, but always like 2-3 units at once...

dosbox2010071811484379.jpg

And this guy... Of course just by stats it's clear that this is far most dangerous units out there. But there are more things. First, the heavy attack is ridiculous itself, especially when the game offers only better heavy vehicles at this point. But it's also a light unit, making all those tanks really ineffective and 24 defense is too much even for our anti-light (AL) units. Oh and by the way, our best AL unit - flamethrowers actually HEALS it. Which is not a big deal unless AI decides that it's a good idea to 'opponent fire' them with flamers. And finally, it teleports instead of normal movement.

dosbox2010071811564537.jpg

Fortunately, they appear only as single units so far, so it's not that difficult to deal with them. More filler combat here...

dosbox2010071812151601.jpg

With everything that moved down, our army captured a hill nearby.

dosbox2010071812202107.jpg

Eat that, notice EXTREME range of our new artillery thanks to high ground.

dosbox2010071812210043.jpg

Didn't stand a chance against rain of mortars shells.

dosbox2010071812245771.jpg

Rare occasion in Spellcross - 1v1 combat.

dosbox2010072823594000.jpg

dosbox2010072900102085.jpg

dosbox2010072900125082.jpg

And last monsters...

So that was it. The last mission was much more frustrating than it looks like but it's finally over. Anyway, here are our new recruits, awaiting for next assignment!

Nice update! Will we be getting anything similar to these hell-riders? I mean, beast-riding, teleporting, armor-raping motherfuckers?

I nominate Kingcomrade for one of those units then. :M

Trust me, endgame Human Technology will shit all over that fantasy stuff. :salute:

Wow. Will we be getting power-armor wearing, gauss-rifle wielding, teleporting strike commandos with majickal abilities? If so, I'd like to lead one of those..

Well, you'll have jetpacks instead of teleporters, but power armor and gauss guns are in.

Time to finally finish this BS. ^^

dosbox2010073101404143.jpg

Let's start with wall of text.

dosbox2010073105274628.jpg

dosbox2010073105275870.jpg

dosbox2010073105304865.jpg

Obvious ambush is obvious.

dosbox2010073105435351.jpg

Notice how that road ends.

dosbox2010073105450356.jpg

Combined Renegades and Dark forces here. I have to say that leveled tanks are very effective vs heavy units.

dosbox2010073105570731.jpg

Here's new enemy unit, unfortunately it was dead before my turn.

dosbox2010073106133698.jpg

Here is how our army regains morale dropped by long camping - few steps back and forth :smug:

dosbox2010073106201215.jpg

dosbox2010073106220018.jpg

dosbox2010073106355757.jpg

After enemies stopped coming, it was time to move out.

dosbox2010073106471729.jpg

And capture that high ground.

dosbox2010073106480362.jpg

Our target.

dosbox2010073106491126.jpg

dosbox2010073106524062.jpg

dosbox2010073106552060.jpg

dosbox2010073106571260.jpg

dosbox2010073106594746.jpg

High ground and tanks solved this p. well. That was their last 'army', and started coming remaining units and some renegades that were no problem at all.

dosbox2010073107093348.jpg

When all cleared, it was only about destroying that portal.

dosbox2010073107371409.jpg

After that, enemy attacked again, showing a new unit, ghosts. Seems like it 'levitates' - it's a ground unit but can cross water. While melee and not that powerful, notice the defense rating (it's not fully leveled though). Seems high? It's way too high, considering it is light unit and our light counters haven't really progressed since flamers.

dosbox2010073109182246.jpg

This is from another defense an it's that mysterious unit killed in interrupt. It's not that powerful, it can have summoned 1 undead at time though. One of less dangerous enemies.

dosbox2010073108175012.jpg

Moar filler text.

dosbox2010073109223281.jpg

dosbox2010073109323884.jpg

Walls of text here.

dosbox2010073109372873.jpg

dosbox2010073109375996.jpg

This map is quite tricky fucking retarded. It's small with mountain in the middle, of course occupied by enemies.

dosbox2010073109403625.jpg

To make it little easier, i took only long range units and sniped some enemy units, then retreated.

dosbox2010080111074432.jpg

After that, i took all those units that Alliance gave us because high losses are ensured here.

dosbox2010080111112534.jpg

I could kill most of the units on the top in first turn, but more were coming.

dosbox2010080111190296.jpg

dosbox2010080111203453.jpg

dosbox2010080111211418.jpg

dosbox2010080111233734.jpg

Meatshield tactic did the job quite well, minimizing damage to our own army.

dosbox2010080111355896.jpg

dosbox2010080111283456.jpg

Some golems camping right below the top but tanks can usually destroy them in few shots. All orcs managed to do was killing one more meatshield.

dosbox2010080111313784.jpg

There wasn't any time to fortify and our army had to move forward to reach those towers anyway.

dosbox2010080111364695.jpg

dosbox2010080111371993.jpg

dosbox2010080111393276.jpg

Operation meatshield has been successful!

Enemy captured one mined out sector but wasn't attacking now so i was researching stuff. Here is moar filler text:
dosbox2010080111415939.jpg

dosbox2010080113595251.jpg

Research yielded some new nice upgrades and units. Upgrading M1 and Artillery with armor, engine and guns, Piranha was upgraded to new APC with flamer against those annoying ghosts (bought only one because while it is most powerful AL unit, it has only 6 range which is outdated at this point.) and finally some paranormal infantry. By stats, it's comparable to mortars teams with better defense. Of course, i had to test it out:
dosbox2010080112555464.jpg

dosbox2010080114063828.jpg

While recapturing sector, new unit have been spotted. It can attack but so far, enemy used it only as a scout like gargoyles.

dosbox2010080115390187.jpg

dosbox2010080115391512.jpg

When everything researched and healed, time to secure this BS.

dosbox2010080115495085.jpg

dosbox2010080115495085.jpg

dosbox2010080115580712.jpg

Ghosts... Even if flamers are more effective against them like against undead, it is still far from win.

dosbox2010080116013992.jpg

dosbox2010080116055162.jpg

dosbox2010080116120181.jpg

dosbox2010080116174160.jpg

Same pattern, everything dies except ghosts.

dosbox2010080116531223.jpg

Not far to the north, there was entrance to enemy camp with palisade around.

dosbox2010080116555521.jpg

dosbox2010080117091660.jpg

Artillery units worked there but i had to move front line because without fortifying, corners can be deadly if you don't get interrupt.

dosbox2010080117123110.jpg

Then it was about luring and killing scattered enemies...

dosbox2010080117204565.jpg

And killing portal. It actually really ports enemies, almost lost hummer when gargoyle jumped from it.

Another BS secured, this one being definitely the most annoying mainly because frequent attacks from enemy.

If you don't quit questioning science, psychic assassins are going to boil your cat... with their MINDS. And besides, didn't we all see Scanners?

Silly superstition. Like I could really read their minds and make them do my biddings unwittingly..

"Here's your orange sherbert sir."

Why, thank you. :smug:

This is the game you were suggesting? It looks interesting, albeit someone seems to have done this...and also, it looks awfully strategery. If I were gonna take this on, I'd probably want to make sure it's something I don't turn into a borefest like I do with every other strategy game.
