Tags: Angelic; Metaverse Game StudiosAngelic is a rather unusual upcoming "narrative turn-based strategy RPG" from a Turkish indie team by the name of Metaverse Game Studios led by one Erkan Bayol. The game is set in the 28th century and puts the player in the role of Phoenix, the latest member of a seemingly all-female group of quasi-angelic transhumans ("neo-humans") who have recently reemerged in order to investigate a mysterious cosmic fungal infestation after having fought a war against a corporate-dominated humanity 200 years previously. According to the developers, Angelic is equal parts story-driven game and tactical RPG, with players expected to spend half their time conversing with companions onboard their ship. The game has been in development since early last year, but we spotted it last night when they launched its Steam page. Here's the latest trailer and description:
Angelic is a single player narrative turn-based strategy RPG, set in a dark science fiction universe.
Angelic combines turn-based strategy combat with distinctive and colorful heroes you often see in narrative games. Angelic has an equal emphasis on storytelling and party-based RPG elements, all backed by a dark and compelling science-fiction setting in which you are often mesmerized by the complexity of the events happening around you.
In the 28th century, 200 years after the interhuman war between the corporations and neo-humans, long forgotten "angels" returned from deep space. The corporations dominated the Earth long ago and the neo-humans' arrival raised a red alert for them. Especially after they discovered there was a dreadful and hostile fungus spreading in their deep-space colonies, a plague that can infect any kind of living organism.
Get ready to join a massive conflict, where you will have to question the morality of humanity, and struggle to make the right decision most of the time.
Exploit, aid, hide.
Take action, and rise!
Have I mentioned this game is unusual? Additional details about Angelic are available on its development blog and YouTube channel. Apparently Metaverse were planning to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the game last year, which never materialized. They don't seem to be talking about that now, but judging by the hashtags on their Twitter feed I suspect it hasn't been called off.
