Angelic is a rather unusual upcoming "narrative turn-based strategy RPG" from a Turkish indie team by the name of Metaverse Game Studios led by one Erkan Bayol. The game is set in the 28th century and puts the player in the role of Phoenix, the latest member of a seemingly all-female group of quasi-angelic transhumans ("neo-humans") who have recently reemerged in order to investigate a mysterious cosmic fungal infestation after having fought a war against a corporate-dominated humanity 200 years previously. According to the developers, Angelic is equal parts story-driven game and tactical RPG, with players expected to spend half their time conversing with companions onboard their ship. The game has been in development since early last year, but we spotted it last night when they launched its Steam page. Here's the latest trailer and description:

Angelic is a single player narrative turn-based strategy RPG, set in a dark science fiction universe.

Angelic combines turn-based strategy combat with distinctive and colorful heroes you often see in narrative games. Angelic has an equal emphasis on storytelling and party-based RPG elements, all backed by a dark and compelling science-fiction setting in which you are often mesmerized by the complexity of the events happening around you.

In the 28th century, 200 years after the interhuman war between the corporations and neo-humans, long forgotten "angels" returned from deep space. The corporations dominated the Earth long ago and the neo-humans' arrival raised a red alert for them. Especially after they discovered there was a dreadful and hostile fungus spreading in their deep-space colonies, a plague that can infect any kind of living organism.

Get ready to join a massive conflict, where you will have to question the morality of humanity, and struggle to make the right decision most of the time.
  • Gather your team of spectacular heroes, gain their love and respect, upgrade and customize them.
  • Immerse yourself into the deep lore and an epic story, experience unforgettable journeys with multi-layered, unique characters.
  • Command your one-of-a-kind spaceship and explore a dark and unforgiving universe.
  • Fight with your team to protect your allies, harass the interests of suppressive corporations and investigate the horrific infestation phenomena.
Evolve, adapt, advance… Love, hate, shun…

Exploit, aid, hide.

Take action, and rise!

Have I mentioned this game is unusual? Additional details about Angelic are available on its development blog and YouTube channel. Apparently Metaverse were planning to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the game last year, which never materialized. They don't seem to be talking about that now, but judging by the hashtags on their Twitter feed I suspect it hasn't been called off.

A bit of actual gameplay would entice me more than janky cinematic trailer trash. Still, might be decent, we shall see. I just don't understand why people go all "muh epicness" and show all kinds of stuff except the very game they are selling.

Make the Codex Great Again!
So a group of women investigating a fungal infestation.

all-female group of quasi-angelic transhumans ("neo-humans") who have recently reemerged in order to investigate a mysterious cosmic fungal infestation

So in the XXVIII century, they don't have a cream for that?

Looking at trailer i though that you play for male voice commander, to purge herecy and transhumans.

Would be better if was that way.

The runway model walking animation during combat looks ridiculous and is way too slow. Also, not a huge fan of the pod mechanic that discourages movement during combat.

I give them credit for showing actual gameplay but looks like they've got a lot of work to do.

Could not listen to a simple complete sentence from that dude showcasing the combat. Why couldn't they hire someone who can actually speak English to do that? The only way making that worse would have been hiring someone from an Indian call center to do the combat bit.

Females? "TRANS"humans. Hmmm.... gender fluid non-binary agenda maybe.

Why is it Sci Fi? Why not actual angels?
I would like a tactical rpg where I kill demons and knights with a squad full of hot winged women with burning swords much more.

Give me this:

not this:

I will keep it on my radar, maybe worth it for gameplay purposes.

I would pay good money if there was ever a game where you could play a zenophobic, highly militarized all-female angel autocracy like the one from Serra's realm.
