HomeLAN - It sound like RPG-like characters will be a big part of Black9. What can you tell us about the playable characters and their abilities?
Erik Bethke - The RPG system is based on four character attributes: Strength, Dexterity, Agility and Constitution. Dexterity is used for hacking and nanotech skill checks. Additionally, all of the nanotech effects check against a second attribute such as the area effect water nanotech Tsunami uses Constitution in addition to Dexterity. The RPG system to our action game acts like the whole car-building addiction of Gran Tourismo to the racing game. Strength affects melee attacks, Constitution health, and Agility running and jumping. However, all of our RPG elements act as a secondary, light effect on top of the action interface of the game.
In the future, hacking no longer requires knowledge and thinking, only reflexes!
Actually, there's a strange parallel with the above line about hacking in Black-9 and playing modern day CRPGs as well.
