In Vault 34, the ghouls there are all "Vault Dwellers" or "Vault Security Guards." Anyway, game has a shitload of side quests. I'm 10 hours in, still not at New Vegas. Right now I'm in Freeside doing quests for the King. Side quests are fun and not all of them are "run all over the wasteland and do this."

Hm, am I getting this right that this game combines a) important "can die for real" NPCs with b) utterly stupid AI? That sounds like a recipe for xMADx

Well yes, it seems with the exception of children every NPC in the game does not have the essential flag, even companions can die but in Hardcore mode only.

That creates a bit of a issue with them getting killed by random spawned enemies but as long they keep spawn points away from settlements that should not be much of a issue, Victor died because the player kinda "set it up" as things only happen in the active cell (meaning the cell the player is).

Makes me worried about roving traders ...

Only in Hardcore? That must be wrong, since companions could die in FO3, like the wandering traders

see here, no essential tags

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Category: ... companions

edit: Yeah, hardcore doesn't factor into it, they aren't essential in Normal

incidentally, I already found the Kodex Kompanion of Khoice (wait...)

When asked about himself, Gannon is evasive, saying only that he's in his late thirties, he was born west of the Mojave, he was close to his mother, and that his hobbies include reading pre-war books about failed socioeconomic theories. During this dialogue it is implied that Gannon is a homosexual.

Victor the robot who saves you was traveling to New Vegas (still haven't been there yet, can probably get in there soon if I try, but going to do a quest for Crimson Caravan first, have to get to them). I happened to run into him, and started following him, only we got ambushed by an assload of golden geckos, and Victor died. Wonder what will happen now that I lost him. Since his role seemed rather important about who is controlling him and his motives. C&C, I suppose.

he asks you to talk to the person pulling the strings when you get to NV. It would be stupid if that individual didn't just send another securitron to do that job in his place though. C&C wise the main plot seems to be a codexfag paradise, with three rival factions to pick from plus the option of going solo and just fucking them all for your benefit.

Not wanting to sound like a jackass here, but Sport, can you tell us about some quests you've done or places you've explored so far? Do quests have interesting multiple solutions? Are stats and skills made more important here than they were in F3?
Let me give an example:

The quest in Primm involves an escaped convict gang taking over the city. I saved the deputy only for him to end up shot (companions die motherfuckers), so I had to go find a new sheriff. I could reprogram a robot in the Primm casino, but instead I went to this guy I knew who was an ex-sheriff in the prison, and (after getting a pardon from NCR) made him sheriff.

There is also a third option which is getting the NCR to take over the area, which is what I'm doing. It requires that you help the NCR get some more troops though.

  • Fallout: NV is melting GPUs due to Engine Issues.

Fallout 3 : New Vegas has been one of the most anticipated games in the last year and now that it’s here and upon us something was bound to happen. Has Fallout 3: New Vegas melted your machine yet? Obsidian has officially admitted that it’s a known issue and that a fix is "a work in progress".

Fallout 3: New Vegas VATS screens aren’t framerate-limited, which means that when you're carefully planning your tactics, your graphics hardware renders the shit out of those screens, causing some bad overheating problems. Bethesda Softworks PR Manager Pete Hines mentioned the issue was on Obsidian's end and Bethesda, although being the engine developer, had nothing to do with these issues and is redirecting any customer complaints to Obsidian's support forum and localized phone numbers:
