Just three games? That's unpossible.

But if I was forced to produce a list I probably say something like:

Civilization 2
Civilization 4
Settlers II

Or maybe Transport Tycoon
Or Mafia
Or Baldur's Gate 2
Or Fallout: New Vegas
Or S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Or Operation Flashpoint
Or Close Combat 3
Or Gothic
or or or...

About 8 meters beneath sea level.
These are the games that while subjectively may not be the best ever are still the ones I spend the absolute most time with.

Medieval Total War. Play a cool boardgame and then murder thousands in an awesome tactical rts. Fuck yeah!
Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday. Spaceships! Space jocks! Evil capitalists! Intelligent monkey engineers! Rocket guns!
East Front II. Best. Tactical. Level. Wargame. Ever.

Honorable mentions:
Crusader Kings
Master of Magic
Darklands

Pinnacle of KOEI strategy gaming before plunging into slow consoletard decline. Actually developed by their short-lived american studio. Rumor is, the lead designer went on to become the head guy for Diablo. How the mighty are fallen...

How is combat?

Iso/tb. Up to 7 characters per side. 3 classes, 2 being different kinds of spellcasters. Rune-based magic affecting (and affected by) terrain and weather.

Couldn't pick 3 without a team of analysts assisting me but it's probably something along the lines of:

Fallout
Diablo
X-Com

I'll change my mind in five minutes.

It'd take a lot of thought to come up with a list like that. Most of us don't have this info on standby, so I think most of us are pulling names that we may have heard more of recently.

I think it's fair to list games by age. When I was a little derp I sure as hell didn't appreciate some of the games I do now. Now for my life story:

5 - 10: Duck Hunt, Tetris, Super Mario Bros.

11 - 15: Super Mario 64, Starcraft, Infantry

16 - 20: Guild Wars, Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942

20 - Now: Bioshock, Bad Company 2, and yes... Skyrim
