TB is definitely more marketable and does better on the market. RTwP is generally trash that requires extensive ways to make it less trash.

Also, lots of consolefags are familiar with TB due to JRPGs. Mention RTWP to that audience and you'll just get a blank look.

Can we talk about how almost every JRPG isn't actually an rpg or would we have to take that to a new thread?

You should make a new thread entitled "What is an RPG?", those always end well.

No apparent effect from TB announcement so far :M
A few people in the comments got really butthurt and cancelled their pledges because of it, so there's that
And yet it made no impact on the Kickstarter. Most people will be satisfied with having a choice between TB and RTwP, rather than getting angry over game having either system, because then they can just pick the one they want. The real problem would be if developers fail to implement them properly.

Most casuals scatter at the sight of TB. There's a reason nuXcom had to dumb it to 2AP.

Casuals scatter at most things. There are levels of casualness. The casuals you're talking about are even more casual than the ones I'm talking about
Not really. RTwP attracts more people than TB, it's pretty much why it was even created in the first place - to mimic the then popular RTS genre.
No reason to "mimic the RTS genre". There are Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate as popular examples of cRPGs with RTwP system.

Also, Numenera backers were asked to pick between RTwP and TB, and TB won by a very slight margin. Make of that what you will.

BG and IWD had RTWP because RTS was popular when they were designed, those examples are exactly what the other guy was talking about.

That would be my guess. A few people cancel, a few pledge or up their pledge, they'll probably get a little more overall because of adding TB, but not a huge amount.

Oh, OK. I misunderstood it a bit then. Still, I question the presupposition [that RTwP is going to attract more people]. Mostly because it's not something that is easy to evaluate. We have examples of games with TB system that are very popular (such as Divinity: Original Sin series).

What I am trying to say is this - we are looking at less about how much RTwP or TS is popular in a versus contest in general in the total population and more about how many people are willing to buy X or Y game, and what bearing RTwP or TS or both has on that.

I'll mega cum all over myself if they make Tb-mode stretch goal
You are an harbinger of decline, decline incarnated, good sir, as a D&D turn based game can only be good if designed to be turn based from its very roots, encounter design is very different in both case. You cant make both play style coexist.

They didn't even make it a stretch goal. They just made it happen. :incline::incline::incline:

First enemy in Shitmaker 2: Math of the Righteous Munchkin:

You walk up to a tiny chihuahua. It looks at you and winks. Suddenly you notice it's actually a chihuahua lich. It tells you that you have 2 options: go behind door #1 and have your SSD drive reformatted, OR go behind door #2 and have your computer scanned for embarassing pr0n and have that sent out to everyone in your email address book. Heavily sweating, you desperately beg for option #3. The chihuhua lich smirks and says that if you were a proper munchkin like most everyone playing Shitmaker, you would have researched this before playing the game, and came prepared with the one thing that can defeat it, the rare feather of Frenzied Half-Bloomed Toucan Bear-Elf, found in a hidden basement of the secret tower in an optional sidemap available in one of the DLCs.

This graph is not representative of the situation, until the end of the day (the values for the previous days are for the whole days, while today's value is just for part of the day).

We can get the full picture using BiggerCake in addition to Kicktraq. BiggerCake shows that by this moment yesterday the amount pledged was at $25k, the day before yesterday it was at $23k, the day before that it was at $31k. Kicktraq's data tells us that by now today's total is at $33k. So there is a major increase in pledges compared to yesterday, and a minor increase compared to three days ago.

Still, we need to wait until tomorrow to say anything more definite. At the moment it seems that the TB announcement did bring some money, but not a huge amount so far.
