He's got a 'review' of InAnity there, and I p. much have to agree with it almost to the letter. The environments are superb, the story and setting are trying but end up confusing and weird (usually not in a positive way), the gameplay variety things (like running sequences and brave little toaster) are a neat idea, but mostly half-arsed, jerky animations and really strange cutscenes, lacking audio (except for music which is very good), not scary in the least. My thoughts exactly.

Yet somehow I still liked it :(

I suspect it's that socialist post-apocalypse atmosphere I suppose. I also liked YAE, plus I actually replayed Singularity despite being very much aware of its shortcomings. I guess I'd dig this game too if I ever played it.

Yup. Pretty much. I had the exact same experience with both YAE and Singularity (although I didn't replay this one).

Another update I can't make heads or tails of, excluding the occasional music reference. Keep it up :salute:

Potato devs cannot into proper names ('La Manche' is not the English name for the 'English Channel').

Indeed it is, Albert, you old cock!

    A cool vista

A smaller version of the broken cross

Some shotgun shells in one of the tents. Guess they wanted to kick arse for the Lord.

Albert goes behind the tents to avoid sunlight

(also, imgur changed this file's title to WARPwh.jpg :hmmm: fucking machine daemons)

Tokaj manages to reach the door

BLOOM WILL LEAD YOU TO JESUS @_@ (quite literally, too)

The music as we enter the cathedral is also p. good.

Also, do you recognise the scenery? :M

    OSHI-

(Don't know what was the other part of the "Eternal" 'cause I wasn't fast enough to catch it. Probably some eternal peace or whatever)

    D:

[IMG] Should we sit in the confessional?

 That would actually be p. classy

[IMG] Oh, that won't be necessary. You see, I don't want you to fall asleep... Because you haven't been sleeping well lately, have you?

    :(

[IMG] You had your part in it...

[IMG] Nightmares haunting you, doc? Or is it the guilt that keeps you up? I know something about guilt. My hands are covered with it.

    [IMG] You seem rather proud

[IMG] But only a few can take the burden of the others and carry it as their own. It was also your burden.

    I never asked for this

[IMG] Oh, you almost make me feel bad about it. You always wanted to be someone extraordinary. Did I rob you of your dream? No, no, no, no, no. The REAL question is: are you going to do something about it?

He keeps shooting all around the place

    Shooting the stained glass windows

I like how the broken glass keeps disappearing even as the cutscene keeps running

Then a chandelier also falls. Stuff is set on feuer.

I wonder how come there's so much blood around this place. Fucking chapel of ghouls.

Holy shit, bloody footprints start appearing across the place.

    ...

WE ARE GONNA FACE DUKE NUKEM?!

Sarcophagi line the sides of the cathedral. Each of them covered in Latin adages

To move forward, Albert actually has to run through lit segments. This leaves him half-dead.

    :hmmm:

    Not another one

    THE LIGHT, IT BURNS.

    Also, ENERGY LEGS

Another chandelier is shot down by the saboteur.

    Albert reaches the altar area

The saboteur keeps shooting him from the doorway out there

Then dr Tokaj makes one step too far ahead and gets burned to death by the sun.

Rewind. Another look at the altar. The deco is pretty cool, and really corresponds with the overly patriotic themes all over the Shelter, too. The game has nailed the 'God, Honour, Fatherland' sentiment perfectly.

Albert tries to shoot back at the saboteur, but he employs Matrix dodging :x

Then goes around the altar to reach him

But he's already on the run

    Dr Shepard pursues

    No sign of the psycho

Great. Seems we're entering another detonation boulevard

    Ayup. Sure we are.

Wait, what. How do you know it's the railway station. There's no sign anywhere.

Why is there a map of West Melbourne here? :hmmm:

Albert runs into the rusting locomotive

    'Hauptbahnhof'

Aaaaaaand the train starts. Guess we can add 'operator of derelict trains' to Albert's CV :hmmm:

But where is it bound? Well. It's time to go... where no man has gone before @_@

Also, we are now at the threshold of the last update. When I feel like compiling it, that is, because it's fuckhueg and I can't really split it into two.

Yeah, srsly. I had the same thoughts when posting this.

Although you could say that he's ok here because he's not looking at the sun :troll:

And while on the subject matter of staring into the sun, here's some incline:

It seems you are not familiar with Catholic worship? What, you thought that whole "drink the blood of our savior" angle was metaphorical? Sheesh.

Really, that close to the finish line? It doesn't really feel like the plot's progressed much, just added random and mostly useless information.

    WTF?

I'm currently reading this update from a actual location on that map, the warp daemons are in full effect. Most bizarre thing i've seen in a game ever.

Soundtrack for today's episode - Afterfall InSanity: Main Theme

Surface. The final frontier. These are the adventures of Albert Tokaj. His mission? Explore strange new diseases of the mind. Discover new mutants and kick their arses. To baldly go where no man has gone before.

It is time to discover What Really Happened to Albert (TM)

Tokaj is standing inside the locomotive, doing some stuff with his PDA

The train is reaching some installation

And a huge shelter door labled 'PIĘŚĆ' (Fist) can be seen inside the mountain wall.

Is this it? Finally, the end of Albert's Od(d)yssey?

    End of the line

    Next stop: total destruction

Albert seems to have FINALLY realised that something's a little bit off about his magical, mystical adventures.

The moment he steps off the train, he's attacked by a whole mob of shifting ash

And some more around the corner

    Oh fuck yes :yeah:

Ok, this is interesting. Albert no longer goes bonkers when he stands in sunlight D:

Also, there's a really cool panorama from this balcony

But we have no time to admire the views

As Albert goes up the non-functioning escalator, the saboteur mocks him from above

    He's standing there, shoopin'

And he keeps mocking poor Albert.

Shooting him, of course, yields no results, since he has Matrix dodges.

    [IMG] I'm done talking.

Trying to close the distance makes him run away

And there's more shifting ash on the way, which makes chasing him tricky

Even more tricky, since he keeps shooting that raging bull of his, and that revolver does really serious damage. Albert has to use popamole tactics and hide behind a map to regen his hp before proceeding

    The lunatic keeps running

    STOP. RUNNING. : x

So close to our goal... and there is only one man standing in the way.

    Epic chase scene

The saboteur jumps over a derelict truck

    And runs by some barricades

Your goal is clear, mr Tokaj.

There are four generator-thingies in this place. When the saboteur gets near them, you gotta shoot them to stun him

This turns off his fucking Matrix dodges and makes him take a full mag of shotgun shells to the face

Still, the fucker is tough as nails, and one burst fire won't take him down

And you gotta remember those gens are not sufficient cover if you need to regen health (BECAUSE DAT REVOLVER DAMAGE), since the psycho can also shoot them, stunning you instead. The electrical impulse doesn't, fortunately, do any damage, but I don't have to explain why being stuck in place for a few seconds is a bad thing to do.

FLEE AND FLEE AND HIDE AND FIND AND DIE

What the hell, he vanished. And the whole area is starting to fill with smoke.

He then is revealed to stand on some elevation.

Nonchalantly aiming his gun, hand behind back like a duelist.

And shoots this tank, knocking over one of the steel support bars

    The tank falls.

And starts filling the whole area with water.

    OOOOOOOH SHI-

Fortunately, Albert manages to find a spot the water did not reach

The saboteur must be still here somewhere.

    Tokaj shoots the generators

And indeed. The psycho is stuck in the middle of the yard, getting massively electrocuted

Which invokes another cutscene, the psycho starts speaking to a battle-weary Albert.

Where has all the water gone? :hmmm:

[IMG] Why would I EVER want to be like you? I had a life there! Not a perfect one, but peaceful! Why did you have to destroy it?

[IMG] Destroy? I gave it back! The life you lost, the life bombs took away and Shelter gate sealed off!

[IMG] I never asked you for anything!

[IMG] You weren't capable of doing.

    *glare*

Albert attempts a headbutt, but the saboteur has high Kung-Fu and dodges

Then Albert tries to beat the shit out of him

But it's like the punches don't even meet their target

After which our doctor is very rudely KO'd.

But he gets up and does another reckless charge

And he takes the rude dude down, hitting his head repeatedly against the ground

Take a good look up to the sky and tell me what you see

Isn't there a sun amongst the clouds?

And where else could it be?

    Derp

    He takes out a revolver.

Guess this is the end of Tokaj's wacky adventure

Or not. He throws it within Albert's reach.

[IMG] It's time to finish what you've started

And then takes out another one

    *suspense*

This is a pretty cool scene

And as the camera hovers up, no longer showing the two gunmen, a shot erupts in the air like the tolling of some great bell.

    And everything goes black...

    But then...

    Huh?

    Holy shit!

[IMG] I know. Did somebody open a highway here? At this rate, we will have to start building residential quarters on the 4th sublevel sooner than we thought.

    [IMG] True, true. Fucking shame.

[IMG] Come on, you lucky bastard.

They grab us and take us towards the Shelter gate.

    [IMG] True, true. Fucking lucky.

    Everything goes black again.

Until the hapless protagonist wakes up and sees he's being dragged through some corridor

    [IMG] True, true. Fucking vixen.

[IMG] What did I expect? She was a stripper, for fuck's sake. How can you demand being understanding of a girl like that, hahahaha.

    [IMG] True, true. Fucking whore.

[IMG] You call her "whore" one more time, and I swear to God... wait a minute, shouldn't we be carrying him differently?

The camera is lowered to show, probably, that they are now dragging him by the legs instead of by the shoulders, or something like that anyway

[IMG] This time, try to listen. The Shelter was contaminated by an unknown type of virus that caused sudden psychological and physical changes. I was ordered to investigate the 'strange behaviour' of the first victims on the second sublevel.

    [IMG] Ordered by who?

[IMG] What did you find on the second sublevel?

[IMG] People exposed to the virus exhibited symptoms of psychosis. Bodies of some started to mutate, every

    The... Orthography... It burns... :(

[IMG] You said it wasn't an accident?

[IMG] Yes, I saw him for the first time in the Reactor Room. Though I think I met him earlier... It doesn't matter. He was the one responsible for the tragedy. He tried to cover up the evidence by damaging the reactor.

The screen shows a scene we know. Probably extracted from Albert's PDA.

    [IMG] before everything blew up.

    Waaaaaaaait

[IMG] I see. What about mr Gotler? Did the virus kill him too?

The stuff showed on the screen...

    I don't remember THAT happening

    What the-

    Holy crap

[IMG] I wouldn't say 'with me', but yes, Karolina Janicka managed to leave the Shelter. We were supposed to

Why do all these recordings show the saboteur? He was never there!

[IMG] The whole city was a full-scale model. A military training ground of some sort. Oh, did she end up reaching the Fist?

[IMG] No, you were the only outsider we've seen since that junker two months ago. Thank you, mr Tokaj, that would be all. Please wait here, medical personnel will arrive shortly. You have to go through the quarantine, it's a standard procedure. It shouldn't last longer than a month.

[IMG] I understand. You can't be too careful.

Especially with trained axe-wielders around

[IMG] By the way, doctor Tokaj...

    OSNA-

    And the screen goes black.

    roll credits

(also, no goodies after credits is decline : x )

The vault door is shut close, the curtain falls. But we are left with so many questions. What happened to Karolina? What happened to the colonel and the rest of his loyal men? What happened to Arek, the tech guy who constructed the brave little toaster? What happened to the cannibal pimp of pimps? What happened, PERIOD?

This is obviously supposed to leave grounds for more Games From The Afterfall Universe (TM), but this is really not good design. Leaving things open-ended is one thing, but leaving glaring holes with no explanation is another.

Still, that would be all. Thanks for reading, and braving through the darkest depths of inanity with Albert Tokaj - psychiatrist, field medic, axe-wielder, gunslinger, commando, engineer, driver, train motorman and explorer extraordinaire :salute:

Thanks for the LP! You've earned massive brofist.

It is quite cheap of the developers to go the cliffhanger way. The setting is quite good, the characters kind of sucked though, so killing them off would be best IMO.

One question though - where the hell in poland you get mountains like those screenshots???

So, as expected, Andrejz was insane all the time. Perhaps not even the mutations were real and he killed the entire Shelter by himself. Too bad that a sequel will probably never happen :decline: Well done finishing this lp. Now, about that game called GROM...

Well, my theory as to what exactly happened in this game is this:

He probably went mad from working too much, and suffering from the confinement syndrome (because it looks like he was the only psychiatrist in Glory, right? So who controls the controllers, etc), that's one thing.

Remember when Albert states at the start that he has trouble sleeping, but when he finally does sleep it happens in completely random, uncontrollable moments? That was probably when Albert's 'Mr Hyde', the saboteur, would activate. During one 'sleep', he'd go down to the second sublevel, sabotage shit and release toxins that made half the Shelter go mad.

And then everything that happened, happened, I guess. Total chaos, witchcraft, heresy and mutation in the Shelter. With some minor moments where Mr Hyde would take over and murder Gotler or prof Tomaszewski.

    :M

All this stuff seems Fight Club-ish. Especially the final fight. I wonder if Albert's PDA has any recording of him punching himself.

    Insert clever insult here
Thanks for doing this. Everything was hallucinations and lies, poor Albert slaughtering the Shelter on his own.
