Tips for Enjoying Grimoire's Combat More?

I want to love Grimoire. It has all of the things I'm looking for, but every time I try it and I fight those stupid slugs or rats, the combat and therefore the game just loses me. I think it's a lack of visual communication to the player ...or the fact that I'm just impatient. But half the effects look alike, so I'm never really clear as to what's going on.

Any tips for someone new to this type of experience to better enjoy the combat? Seems like the other aspects of the game will be amazing as I'm looking for something with god utility spells, puzzles, exploration, skill checks, class roles, etc.

Appreciate it.

1. Lethal blow for everyone.
2. Keep the speed of the guy who puts enemies asleep slightly behind those who are doing the asskicking.
3. Hold Enter to fast forward.

Your "visual communication" is the text at the bottom, not flashy exploshuns all over the screen.

Have a character invest points into the Invocation skill, and use items from the inventory bar. Like wands, combustible potions/bombs, medusa heads and all the other junk you find. They are plentiful and fun. Also, mix up your offensive spell selection for different battles so you don't get in a rut.

Hold enter to fast forward. Increase repeat rate for keys in OS settings. Don't use the manual, enjoy the game. You will never play anything like this ever again.

As others have said, either read what is happening (instead of expecting visual clues) or press Enter to speed through combat.
