    Even if that's true, giving in a nuclear stockpile for an empty promise was pretty much handing over means of power for nothing.

    As the article said, the handing over of the nukes seems to really have been largely symbolic. The sticking point is that Ukraine agreed to non-proliferation. I mean the basic point still stands; "get nuke, be safe". I don't think anybody would deny that.

    then wouldn't be able to use the nukes anyway, the ruskies got the codes. Also we would be seeing alot of middle eastern people with "free uranium real state". Muricans at the time are the most worried about ukranians having nukes. Also alot of the materials on those same nukes fueled european and american reactors for years.
