Realms of Quest VI for the Commodore VIC-20 progress thread (currently in early planning stages, or I wish I had more free time)

(this is just a mockup) Note to mods: feel free to move this to the appropriate section of the forum, if you feel that it is appropriate. Dislcaimer: I haven't officially started working on this game yet. I'm mostly dabbling, working on a font (inspired from Diablo, but with some differences)...

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

Thank you all for your messages and compliments. Even my worthy adversary Cleve has chimed in, and I am humbled honestly (I also backed Grimoire and I was ecstatic when it came out). My game is a bit of a wokefest though :). But those who know me would recognize that I'm being somewhat tongue...

    CRPG Book - Updated version

When I started to finally read the CRPG Book, I decided to do it from back to front—I just love the aesthetics of vintage computer games, so I am saving these for last. And I didn’t want to quit reading the book after I had gone past my favorite RPGs after page 150 or so. As a creator of RPGs...

    CRPG Book - Updated version

I think the following new RPG games for vintage computer systems should be showcased in an updated version of the CRPG Book: -Realms of Quest V for the Commodore VIC-20 (2019). Disclosure: I am the main creator of this game and series. -Realms of Antiquity for the TI/99 (2020) -Nox Archaist for...

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

I recently released version 2.00 of the game. I chose to go from 1.50 to 2.00 because I think this update provides the most tangible upgrades in terms of features. Revision 2.00 changes: -If you select the same monster that was chosen previously in the book of beasts, the file doesn't reload...

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

I also wanted to let you all know that with the help of a translator, I've started to work on a Japanese language version of the game. I'm going to base the character set on that of the VIC-1001, which are Katakana characters. For those who don't know, the VIC-1001 was released in Japan a few...

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

Thanks! And here I was considering locking away the source code to stop me from being tempted to tinker with my game. More screenshots of what is coming:

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

I started tinkering with my game again. In addition to optimizing code, I just added a feature to the "Reveal Location" spell where it not only tells you what your X,Y,Z coordinates are, but it gives you a bird's eye view of the of the dungeon. It's similar to the MAP command in "Pool of...

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

I have set October 1 as my final deadline where I will no longer do any more revisions to Realms of Quest V, and with just a few hours before the end of this day, I am keeping that self-imposed promise. Now, that doesn't mean that this is definitive--if someone were to show me a reproducible...

Realms of Quest IV in the works.

I finally received the REALMS OF QUEST QUADRILOGY boxed set from Psytronik! They decided to re-release the collection of games with brand new artwork commissioned from, and created by industry legend Oliver Frey. The collection features a poster, keychain, pin, and manuals. You can buy it...

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

Thank you! A third batch of physical copies is supposed to come out soon.. There has been a delay because of the current pandemic situation which is preventing the publisher from being able to receive the necessary materials to produce the third batch of physical copies. A European magazine...

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

Thank you. It took a long time, but I've finally made an epic RPG. The only drawback is that I find myself not wanting to play RPG games much anymore--I'd much rather make them. I still like to read RPG manuals though. Think the manual is the heart and soul of computer RPG games.

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

Thank you for your good and endorsement. As for menu navigation, you might try to use the Commodore cursor keys (marked as CRSR at the bottom right of the keyboard, they control up/down and left/right by using the SHIFT key). I will adjust the joystick responsiveness in a future update...

[ALL PHYSICAL COPIES SOLD OUT!] Realms of Quest V for the VIC-20 (digital version is available)

(this is before the series went all woke and shit...) The first four Realms of Quest games for the VIC-20 (along with Ultimate Quest for the C64) are being re-released by Psytronik Software in one special package. It will be available for pre-sale on January 18, 2020...
