Trash of the Titans - Tactical RPG Featuring Cute Animals

It depends on where you draw the line. The dev calls it a tactical RPG. It has leveling up and stats that influence abilities, but I'm not sure there are any choice/consequence elements. It's as much an RPG as the Fire Emblem series, which it think qualifies.

Trash of the Titans - Tactical RPG Featuring Cute Animals

I just discovered this creatively themed tactical RPG with nice pixel art. You control a party of of dumpster-diving trash bandit animals in tactical combat to defend your trash from invading rats. It's a creative premise and I'm interested to see where the devs go with it.

Are You Going To Play Baldur's Gate 3?

I would play BG3, but I don't have a machine that can handle it. Maybe I should fire up BG2 again and finally finish it.

Baldur's Gate 1. I could never get into the sequel, but the first game really captured the spirit of playing a tabletop campaign in a way that no game really has since.

I prefer Diablo 2 because of the variety in scenery and dungeon themes. Also, the faster movement speed is nice.

Indie Obscure indies that deserve more attention - Updated Jan. 2020

Recently discovered a little game call Temple of Aeryn. It hasn't been released yet, but the graphics remind me of early DOS RPGs, so I thought y'all might appreciate it. https://pumpkinteractive.itch.io/temple-of-aeryn I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Game News Caves of Lore is a turn-based pixel art RPG inspired by Ultima VI and other classics, coming January

This looks neat. The graphics look really polished and I love that they went with turn-based combat instead of real-time with pause. I love that Infinitron keeps sharing these indie gems.

Islands of the Caliph - Arabian Nights single character dungeon crawler

I'm excited about this one. I love the art-style and the theme is pretty original. There aren't many RPGs with a middle-east inspired setting.

    Being Evil in RPGs

In Soulash you play as a villain whose goal is to consume the souls of the living and conquer the world. It's a roguelike with pixel graphics, which I know isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's quite good.

'Linear' pacing RPG design and games that do them well?

The Banner Saga series is completely linear, but offers fun tactical combat along with interesting choice and consequence. It's a great of example of how to design a linear RPG, while still providing a sense of agency, allowing the player to feel like they are actually playing the role of the...

The pixel art in Lands of Lore is amazing. Probably the best looking blobber of that era.

    Venaitura

I recently discovered Venaitura, an indie JRPG with graphics reminiscent of the old NES Dragon Quest games. I love these types of games and this one seems to have really nailed that old-school aesthetic. I haven't played it yet, but the few reviews seem to be mostly positive. Has anyone here...

I'm mostly joking. I actually really like Jeff Vogel's work and most of his games actually look pretty decent. The portraits are hilariously bad in this one though, so I couldn't resist.

Queens Wish reaches a level of aesthetic perfection never before seen in a CRPG.

Spiderweb Queen's Wish 2: The Tormentor - Jeff Vogel's new series continues

I will say this about Vogel's games. They bring me back to that feeling of playing an old-school tabletop RPG. I think the simple art style and writing really help with that. I just wish we could replace the derpy character portraits. I don't know why he didn't just reuse the Avadon portraits...
