  1. Why do people hate Oblivion so much?

Oblivion had the first great shield bash implementation making combat fun along with sneak and bow work. Given the level scaling I just put all my active skills in minors and ignore level up almost entirely. Certainly slows it down. The worse thing that can happen in Oblivion is to level up...
  2. Your Top Five Grid Based Blobbers?

Based on your responses maybe just go strait for MM X. Sounds like you might like the more modern games.
  3. Your Top Five Grid Based Blobbers?

I should also mention that Grimoire and Wizardry 7 are effectively joined at the hip because Grimoire is simply W7 reimangined with some creature comforts. Its excellent. But the experience overall across the two is largely the same mechanically. They differ bigtime for story and world building.
  4. Your Top Five Grid Based Blobbers?

In Wizardry 7 there is a ton of combat (like Grimiore) and when you are weak the tactics are critical. Later on you are strong but the puzzles are a sizable challenge and the exploration remains a highlight. At the end of the day the puzzles are most memorable. The ones you can solve that is...
  5. Your Top Five Grid Based Blobbers?

    1. Wizardry 7 2. Wizardry 7 3. Wizardry 7 4. Wizardry 7 5. Grimoire Or course you need to survive the Wizardry 7 experience to try anything else.
  6. Game News Archaelund is an Arkania-style fantasy RPG set in the world of Exiled Kingdoms

Damn I really didn't like Exiled Kingdom but I tried it on my iPhone. Now based on this Archaelund MASSIVE INCLINE I've got to go back and buy the Steam version of Exiled. I mean damn this Archaelund game is tops on my watch list now.
  7. Guidance please.

Not sure wtf you just said but it was both epic and inspiring
  8. KickStarter Queen's Wish: The Conqueror - the Jeff Vogel Kickstarter

Remastering Geneforge is a downgrade if I lose out of combat scout capabilities. Battle preparation is horribly compromised by that damn Avadon engine
  9. Guidance please.

It’s similar. So is PoE. But they aren’t the same clearly. By this logic all stats based CRPG’s are just adaptation variants and interchangeable but they aren’t. The closest cousins to Pathfinder as DND is probably ToEE, BG2 and NWN2. ToEE is tactically amazing but a fairly single minded...
  10. Guidance please.

Except it’s Dark Eye not DnD
  11. Guidance please.

I haven’t played Kingmaker yet but I’ve played both Baldurs and all the Infinity engine games & NWN2. I’m about 40 hours into POE and it’s excellent. If there is something wrong with it I’m yet to see it.
  12. So, Arx Fatalis...

Great innovative ideas and cool setting but the game is broken as hell. That was my impression playing it some 10 years back. The opening few hours were really good though.
  13. Guidance please.

If he enjoyed Pathfinder the obvious recommendations are BG1 & 2, NWN2, Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2, Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2. If the OP is “fresh off the boat” (other than Baldurs) some of these hardcore earlier recommendations are likely to scare him off.
  14. Guidance please.

Pillars of Eternity is an excellent game. If you want to really enjoy it don’t read about all the bitching, whining and complaining before you try it. Especially here at Codex.
  15. Wizardry 7 will be the death of me

No but thanks. I just use it for stuff like this and tracking DnD encounters when I DM for my kids. I don't use it for any serious spreadsheet work really.
