Understandable. The boner would then surely give you away.

It's much simpler - I don't associate myself with characters I play, and staring at the thicc female booty for 40 hours straight is much more pleasant that looking at the dude's ass. Especially in 3rd person perspective games that place the camera exactly behind the character's back, covering half the screen with BUTT
This is your brain on combatfaggotry.

  • On Arcanum they are metacapitalists exploiting everything from his own benefit
  • On Baldur's Gate, they can only be ilusionists, tricking people and illusionists can't master the life and death itself(necromancy) and they aren't good martial fighters. So they only resort is cheap trickery.
  • They are manlets

Normally I'm in agreement with your prestigious spell casting tastes, but this one I must dissent. As long as they're not made overly zany or annoying, they usually carry the most respectable trait of each of the other races. As for Baldur's Gate, having them only be Illusionists, if one chooses to abide that restriction, is not a problem since Illusion is easily the best school in the game, let alone PnP.

I was only joking about illusion and mocking illusionists for fun because illusion is the opposite school of my favorite BG2 school(necromancy), But even considering CRPG limitations, illusion spells are amazing in most games. Losing simulacrum, mirror image, etc; in order to be a necromancer specialized wizard in BG2 is a huge cost. All spell schools has way more versatility on P&P. A necromancer can for eg, use undeads to work in mines, production lines, etc. Illusion and Charm/Enchantment are impossible to be "ported" from P&P in his full capacity. And Divination is very DM dependent. Nobody picks diviner on BG2.

Just like all races has his stereotype, all specialist mages has his stereotype. Necromancers are power hungry socially inept guys, evokers, pyromaniacs who doesn't care about colageral damage. Illusionists, deceitful egocentric people. At least according to the stereotype...

All of this talk remembered me of a Tiefling on a comedy web series. Watch at least 2:15, is funny as hell. And she is very "evoker" like.

Reading through this discussion, I'm now starting to wonder - for the first time in over 20 years - why there are half-elves, half-orcs, and even sometimes half-ogres, but not half-dwarves? Is dwarven dick so much smaller that it can't go deep enough into human vagina? Or does it just get stuck in the beard?
MERP(which is where most of the good non-Tolkien LOTR stuff originated) has half-dwarfs

Hobbits unnerve me because of the big hairy feet. The hobbit stand-in from Kingmaker, whatever it was called, made the cute little girl Linzi have massive hairy feet and it's just like WTF.
Hairy feet are convenient. We have to wear little shirts on our feet so they don't feel cold (socks) and wear armor around them (shoes) just so we can go outside. It's dumb.

Why there are so few games that have goblins as playable race? I would like to do some goblin partying
Gnomes are playable goblins. :M

At this point you might as well just go full furfag/scaly race instead of an awkward manlet - and one that doesn't even lift or have a beard at that.

The only legitimate case for gnomes I've seen was Wizardry 8, where combining their portraits with the right voiceset did give you unique look and feel (get that gnome with pipe and glasses, give him that intellectual egotistic personality to see what I mean).

Other than that Larian did make a right call mashing all the manlet races and their traits with dorfs in DOS2.
This didn't dilute their dorfness, just made them less of a single-hat race.

The Gnome is immunized against all dangers: one may call him a scoundrel, parasite, swindler, profiteer, it all runs off him like water off a raincoat. But call him a Gnome and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: “I’ve been found out.”
