  • Welcome to rpgcodex.net, a site dedicated to discussing computer based role-playing games in a free and open fashion. We're less strict than other forums, but please refer to the rules.

"This message is awaiting moderator approval": All new users must pass through our moderation queue before they will be able to post normally. Until your account has "passed" your posts will only be visible to yourself (and moderators) until they are approved. Give us a week to get around to approving / deleting / ignoring your mundane opinion on crap before hassling us about it. Once you have passed the moderation period (think of it as a test), you will be able to post normally, just like all the other retards.

I'm very into cock and ball torture
So the main argument against splitting the site is that the split forums might die due to inactivity, and the solution to that is to disable new users, leading the forum to die off inactivity in a few years?

The coolest thing about this proposal is that one day in the future the youngest/healthiest one of us will be able to wander the meanders of this place alone, shitting without repercussions on the profiles now serving as graves for the rest of us who didn't make it that far.

Disabling registrations will result in a definite end somewhere along the line. As for hiding the entire forum, that's overkill. I would say most gaming related posts don't contain any form of hate speech or potentially-liable defamation.

DarkUnderlord before you split the Codex into two sites (gaming/non-gaming) or even shut the Codex down for good, why don't you just disable registrations and hide the entire forum for non-members? The pros of these changes seem to outweigh the cons in my opinion:

Cons:
- no new users

Pros:
- no new users ;-)
- no new alts
- the eye of Sauron can no longer see us stops law enforcement from reading our posts
- no site split
- no site shutdown

Edit: Maybe add an invite option so that every member can invite one new user? And maybe make it so that invited members can not invite new users themselves.

Addendum: delete all accounts create since May 2018 just to catch all the useless alts

Nothing keeps you from having all your discussions via PM, which would also be kind to people who would rather not read them.

So the solution is: delete all forums, except a registration forum in which only mods can reply. Threads work via PM, like telephone calls in which you can decide if you want to take part or hang up.

I'm on an actual spaceship. No joke.
DarkUnderlord should sell the site to a fictional entity registered in Bermuda for 1 aussie dollar, and then hire himself as a consultant for the maintenance of the site, run the whole server through a VPN and damn the slowdowns. Now the Codex is no longer Australia's problem, the servers and G-- M-- Enterprises 2.0 are after all situated in Bermuda?

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Going underground could be an idea. You could consider it a temporary measure.

When the culture wars have finished ravaging all that is good we could emerge from the Codexian Vault, ready to spread our virile tribal seed among what's left of the womenfolk.

It's definitely a better idea than just closing the whole thing down. Is the latter option even really considered though by the administration? Don't think so. I'm sure they will come up with something better than that.

But who receives our seed while we are cultivating in seclusion?

Stored and frozen, a kind of federal reserve for the coming cum based ecumonomy.

This is a good idea. Invite-only models work for torrenting sites and the like.

If the world were sane and you could still speak your mind without worrying about losing your job, going to jail or having a mob burn down your house, I would say that "free speech" isn't enough of a draw for new signups, but at this point it may well be.

How it's generally done is rotating open registration periods. You open registration for a month or so and keep an eye on the new users for X amount of time. Then those users can start to invite users, provided they haven't done something to get banned or caused drama.

This process ensures that users can join year-round, whether through registration on an open month, or preferably though invite from a good user.

Pirates have more of a sense of community than our resident leftards, who would just use it to chain-invite their "friends".

Just add a capcha where they'd have to type a specific word. Any lefty who joined would have instant grounds for cancellation.

Except that invites would also let us chain-ban leftards. Or at least monitor them.

Lefties are already here, yet they don't invite people. The difference is that with an invite system, most of the site's content would be hidden from public view.
