Update #4

Our campaign is struggling.

We see that, and we are doing our best to promote it as much as we can. We are contacting media outlets, sending out press kits, and more. However, it's probably not enough, and it won't be enough as we near the last days of the campaign.
However, we want to stress that we are truly thankful for anyone who believes in this project and supports us. We are not planning to stop working on the Scribe RPG even if the campaign fails. We love this project, we loved it before, and we will finish it because it is so much fun for us to create games like this.
-
And as usual, we're providing you with a slightly more extended video showcasing one of our dialogues, which includes a nice day/night transition.

Enjoy and have a great day!

Update #7

Hello everyone!
In this update, we would like to show you an uncut gameplay clip from Scribe RPG. It's a simple exploration of a bandit's lair, featuring stealth, looting, inspection, and combat. Keep in mind that everything is still a work in progress, and there's a lot of tuning and fixing that needs to be done.
Hope you enjoy it! Have a great day, everyone.

I'm somewhat surprised this got a "Project We Love" tag and is still struggling. The tag alone usually bumps up your visibility a lot.

Probably just a sign of the times that people really don't trust kickstarters anymore, especially by new studios.

There are more publishers that specialize in indie games nowadays too, so people might think that you should just pitch to them instead of relying on KS like in the past.

Simply ZERO marketing they've done. They haven't even contacted Swordhaven Team, who are running Kickstarter in parallel with similar audience, for shout out. Hooded Horse publisher might pick them up and save project

Since this is done by ex-lead artist for WarHorse and Vavra gave warm recommendation on Twitter, I fail to see why wouldn't WarHorse give these talented guys, their former colleagues, small loan of 50k euros. Bunch of people will probably try to convince me that things ain't that simple, but truth be told: they are.

Notch also could have invested into bunch of indies, he chose giant mansion and beer fountain. He still had money left, so he invested it on Wallstreet. He still had money left and he chose to sleep on it. That's the truth. Rich people have power to be super cool or super lame. Most are lame. My family is like that. Rich father, uncle one, uncle two, uncle three, grandpa. And they spend 25k euros on young ugly lawyer slut after first blowjob, go on 7 summer vacations in single year while paying their blood minimal wage (gipsy janitor lvl) for programming and yelling at them: "Where is my Instagram/ PostgreSQL/ AI Marketing meets Call Center killer"

Vavra should be cool rich guy

Consumers may think that, but the truth is that the video game industry is currently imploding. All my gamedev circles are in shambles.

Basically, the bubble popped. Publishers are being way more careful in the projects they take on, and this means less opportunities for new studios.

This honestly could be a good thing for games in the long run. Less bad games that gets money thrown at it just because the studio heads have connections.

Update #9

Hello everyone

This is just a quick heads-up update about what is happening with Scribe these days.
  1. We are still hard at work polishing almost every aspect of the game. As we mentioned earlier, we are heading towards the release of our playable demo, and we feel really positive about how it is progressing so far. Here is an uncut video from the beginning of the game. It features a lot of dialogues, some exploration, quests, character leveling, crafting, and more. Enjoy!

  2. We are also preparing our Steam page and will inform you when it’s ready so you can show some wishlist love for Scribe RPG. :)

  1. Part of the game’s polishing involves implementing an advanced pathfinding system for our enemy NPCs. It is still in progress, and we are really looking forward to showing you what it can do. The picture below shows a WIP schema of navigation nodes in a test level.

  1. And we also have an exciting announcement! We participated in the international GamePitch Arena in Liberec, Czech Republic, and we are thrilled to announce that we won in the 'Enchanting and Experimental Genres' category. We really appreciate this recognition - it’s a big morale boost for us.

Why devs still post on Kickstarter, and not on Scribe's Steam page?
Hello everyone!
Here’s a quick update on what’s happening with Scribe RPG.

Although we’ve been radio silent for the past few months, we are still hard at work on the game. The navigation system for NPCs, which we mentioned in earlier updates, has proven to be the most complex feature we’ve tackled so far. However, we’re now pushing toward its final implementation with full steam!

The navigation system is already functional; we’re now focused on thorough testing and debugging to ensure everything runs smoothly. Since our world is designed to be organic and we wanted our NPCs to navigate and interact with the environment dynamically—using ledges, ropes, and other features to chase the player throughout the level, this ambition has made this feature incredibly challenging.

In the short GIF below, you can see NPCs dynamically recalculating their paths to pursue the player, utilizing ledges and other level elements to stay hot on their trail.

Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for your continued support!

We wish you great day and pleasant weekend.

Scribe RPG Development Update
After a long period of radio silence - when we were fully focused on development - we’re excited to say we’re back up to full speed! Our goal is to release a playable demo of the game soon for all of you to check out and, hopefully, enjoy.

  • What we have:
The entire demo and all its content are already in place! We’re now fine-tuning the writing, quests, and other gameplay elements, as well as finalizing the graphics and sound.

  • What we are working on:
We’re wrapping up and fine-tuning our combat mechanics, and most importantly, we’re implementing a robust navigation system for our NPCs. Originally, this wasn’t something we had planned for the game. However, NPCs patrolling the world or actively chasing the player - using everything the player can, like ropes, ladders, platforms, and ledges - felt like a must-have. We believe it greatly enhances gameplay versatility.

Please stay tuned much more will come soon :)

Why devs still post on Kickstarter, and not on Scribe's Steam page?
They might be planning a second campaign, in which it's good practice to keep in touch with people who will actually support you with real money.

On the other hand, steam pages get really slow organic traffic, especially if you're not hyper popular.

It's safer to just post it everywhere. Ctrl+v doesn't cost anything.

Hope it's good. I've always liked side-scrolling RPGs, though Dex is the only one I can think of that's not a Metroidvania.
