<A href="http://www.rpgdot.com/">RPGDot</a>'s own <b>Ekim</b> has posted another <A href="http://www.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10053&ID=513">editorial</a>, which is a fun read if you're looking to kill a couple of minutes. Basically, it's a look back on <a href="http://nwn.bioware.com">NeverWinter Nights</a>, why is won awards, why people don't get why it won awards, and <A href="http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/module_witchwake1.html">Witch's Wake</a>. Here's a bit on the latter:
<br>
<br>
<blockquote>So, if you are one of those that shunned NWN because of its single-player failures (and I am not blaming you at all for it), if you are of those that said that NWN was a disappointment, please (oh please!) do yourself a favor and download this free module. Don?t linger on the story yet, but pay attention to what it achieves, and where it?s headed. And remember that there are more modules on their way, and that its developer is taking notes as to where it should be going. Take the time to experience the game again, and maybe then you?ll understand better why we thought it deserved to be praised so much.</blockquote>
<br>
<br>
I tried <A href="http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/module_witchwake1.html">Witch's Wake</a> and found it to be basically <i>the other side of awful</i>. It's not combat focused like the campaign that shipped with <A href="http://nwn.bioware.com">NeverWinter Nights</a>, but it shows the same basic lack of a clue on how to make something remotely decent.
<br>
<br>
So, <b>Ekim</b>, if you're reading this, go play <A href="http://www.spidweb.com/geneforge/index.html">Geneforge</a> or <A href="Http://www.zero-sum.com">Prelude to Darkness</a> and leave that silly <A href="http://www.bioware.com">BioWare</a> stuff behind.
<br>
<br>
Oh, and why it won awards is about the same reason <i>Gladiator</i> won Best Picture a few years back.

This guy really doesn't have any clue about what he talks about, most of the time. I'm suprised that RPGDot lets him post his articles, which, for the most part, seem more like forum posts than real editorials, with such weak content and undeveloped arguments.

Well, they've never seemed particularly persausive to me either, but he's got a fairly decent writing style for a teenager these days. Of course, I typically disagree with his editorials, since he has radically different tastes than I do.

As for Witch's Wake, I think it boils down to HYPE THAT WORKED rather than DESIGN THAT WORKED. After all, they kept on stating how wondermous the Witch's Wake module would be, and apparently a few people actually believed it.

There's a lot of dialogue, but it doesn't take you a while to figure out that it's really, really poorly done dialogue, and done in a matter where you don't really have to read it to get anywhere.. All you have to do is make sure you click every dialogue option and you're racking up the experience without having to actually do anything. I'm kind of amazed anyone that played that module didn't figure that one out. Prelude to Darkness and Geneforge trounce Witch's Wake in terms of dialogue and the consequences for that dialogue, mainly because Witch's Wake pretty much doesn't have any consequences for choices. That's really poor design for a module that's mainly about the dialogue.

People want to hype up the fact that NWN has these great modules for it, but when they start touting Witch's Wake as a good thing, it makes you really wonder how good the others are they claim are also great.
