There's a community interview over at Hellgate Guru(dumbest name ever) covering mostly multiplayer aspects of the upcoming Hellgate: London. A lot of the questions went unanswered, but there's a few pretty good tidbits here and there. Here's one on cash moneys:

27. In Diablo 2 you (almost) only used the money/gold to repair and recharge stuff and buy potions. will the money/gold actually mean something in HG:L?

Almost? What is that? Like you could also use money to buy anything but often chose not to? That kind of almost? Well then that's the same thing as any other game.

Basically, anything you find in Hellgate you can probably purchase somewhere. Whether you choose to or not is entirely up to you and in no way reflects upon the importance of economy in our game, nor does it imply money is 'almost' useless.

That being said, the game is more about discovery than acquisition. We encourage our players to kill monsters because the rewards are worth the work.

I gambled it away. Might as well, since the game limited you to how much you could carry.

Damn, a rogue-like with multiplayer? What'll they think of next?

In terms of singleplayer, we're not doing anything to extend the longevity of our title past five play throughs.

Our bosses are bosses in that they're bigger, meaner, tougher hell bastards than what you've been fighting, but they're still just hell bastards of a different sort. So I suppose they are a bit predictable in that sense, but then they're kind of supposed to be. In terms of strategy, you'll need to learn how to combat bosses since they all have specific strengths and weaknesses and are prone to certain actions.

Yep, that sounds like a randombly generated roguelike with unlimited replayability allright

This changes so often there's really no way to know how it will wind up right now. Basically everyone who ever said anything about the skill system in the past was probably right but is now probably wrong, though they could very well be right again in the next 20 minutes.

IMHO if they dont even know how they are going to do the most important feature of the game they should just shut the hell up until they do, wth are they hyping if they dont know anything about the gameplay or multiplay ? -_-

my hopes for this game are going lower and lower by the second

I have to say I was a little distressed about the lack of vision that came across when they were discussing the mechanics of the game as well. I understand that things change and through playtesting some things get improved and changed, but.. You'd think there would be something fairly clear locked down by now that they could say about the skills and what they do. Unless their original design was so crappy they had to toss it and start over, the only things they should need to change with testing and such are the values of what the skills do.

They only worked on the graphics so that they can get on with a good old diablo 2 style 4 years long hyping campaign, i guess its the strategy to get sales nowadays.

I don't know if this is relevant but Ivan Sulic was an editor at PS2.IGN until recently. I'm not sure I ever read much of his stuff (don't have a console) but I've seen him called an idiot before. Perhaps he just didn't do a good job of communicating some stuff.

The Granly Dude Of Doom is what you might be recalling, and yeah, he's an idiot.

Anyway, they should steal FATE's idea and let you buy prestige with excess gold. I don't know how bards would fit into the Hellgate London setting. Maybe they could have a bar with a dreary, pathetic goth band that can write songs about you.

I've been meaning to ask you Deacdo: is your name a misspelling of "Decado" from the David Gemmell novel "The King Beyond The Gate"?

on the main web site

Remember Avalon, the nude Templar model from Playboy? Hellgate Guru's managed to get its hands on the full, high resolution image. Weighing in at 2735x3500, Phil Shenk's Avalon is truly a sight to behold.

Geek porn. I wonder how many will jerk themselves off over the picture. lol

I just like how as the game gets closer to release, they get less and less sure about what they will actually be delivering.
