In contrast of the Mad Gamerz review, there's a fairly upbeat and happy one that comes from PC Gaming. In their review, they give it a 4/5 and say such pleasant things as:

Character creation is not the standard pick a race and class as we’ve seen from many D&D related titles. In Arx Fatalis, you are given a set character and it is your job to assign him skill points in different areas, or just one area, if you want him to be a specialist. Although slightly unrealistic that your character can control the flows of magic while also being an expert swordsman, while also being adept at pick-pocketing and lockpicking, it means that every corner of the game is accessible, and you don’t miss out on any part of the kingdom of Arx. A mistake which some RPGs have made in the past.

But now it’s on to the actual flesh and bones of the game which, as I’ve said before, look very good. Visually, Arx Fatalis is on a par with the graphical masterpiece that is Morrowind. Yes, Morrowind featured an overwhelming vast game world yet still retained its gorgeous graphics whereas Arx, on the other hand, is far smaller and it’s based entirely underground but the graphics are still crisp and refined. But then I think of that incredibly ugly girl who looked so good in the dark...

That's interesting about the graphics, because the big, huge screenshot they have at the top of the review looked pretty ugly to me.

To quote Rodney Dangerfield, "The last time I saw a mouth like that, it had a hook in it!"
Throw all your preconceptions about sneaking up on a monster and then using a violin string to strangle the monster to death.
Is there a game that lets me do that? I so want to do that. Does anyone know a game where you get to do that? I really want to do that so much.
